Readers Lend Their Voices...
To the Editor,
Ladies and gentlemen, friends
and neighbors. Hi, it’s me again.
Some
wonderful
news!
We have someone running for the
W.O.E.C. Board of Directors with
fantastic credentials! Smart, knowl-
edgeable, honest, and willing to work
for the members. May I repeat that?
WILLING TO WORK FOR THE
MEMBERS!! Her name is Sharlena
Roberts and I encourage you to con-
sider her for the Board.
The W.O.E.C. Annual Meet-
ing is coming up on the 18 th of August.
Just a little information about what it
cost you to have this party. In 2017
they budgeted $20,000.00, wound up
spending $16,387. $20,000 is bud-
geted again this year.
2017 costs included:
1. Venue. 962.50
2. Lunch. $2,500.00
3. Entertainment. $1,200.00
4. Gifts. $3,918.92
5. Ballot mailing. $6,236.90
6. Directors Nomination Meeting
$1,401.64
7. Misc. $167.90
There are two glaring in-
creases in costs in 2017. In 2016 the
venue was $275.00 at the Scout Cab-
in. In 2016 and before there had not
been any entertainment.
Points to ponder as you write
that check to pay your higher rates.

Featured Dog
Purr-fect Pals
This special little lady deserves to be loved to the moon
and back. She came to the shelter via one of our
shelter partners and so far in 2 years she has had a
pretty tough life. She gets along with other dogs,
however we would not recommend that she be placed
with female dogs or little dogs. We would recommend
her match be at least 45-50 lbs as she is a substantial
girl and doesn't really recognize her size. It is unknown
at this time how she is going to do with cats or kids.
Zena came to the shelter because her owner could no
longer care for her, and were not able to give us much
information about her. We do know that she is about 6
years old and is very loving and sweet. She loves food and
is very food motivated. She is working on coming when
called as well as learning to give a high five and touch her
head to your hand when asked. Her initial reaction to other
cats is to hiss, but once she realizes they aren't going away she seems to settle right in. Zena is
part of our newly designed enrichment package, so with her $145 adoption fee she comes
complete with $75.00 worth of gear that will help to make her transition to your home easier.
At CHS the health and welfare of the animals in our care is our number one priority. We are dedicated to helping our adoptive families find
that one perfect fit that will complete their family. Please email animalwelfare@columbiahumane.org or call 503-397-4353 so that we can
talk to you about your needs and wants in a new family member prior to just arriving at the kennels.
