News From the Columbia County Cultural Coalition
Nonprofit Grant Writing Workshop
In the third of a series of work-
shops designed to benefit local non-
profit organizations and individuals, the
Columbia County Cultural Coalition
(CCCC) is offering a full day event,
“Developing Grant Writing Skills,” on
Wednesday, May 23 from 9:00 am to
4:00 pm at the auditorium of the Colum-
bia Learning Center at the St. Helens Li-
brary.
The Instructor is Arthur Davis,
GPC (Grant Professionals Institute Cer-
tified), who has over fifteen years of
experience in helping non-profits grow.
Among his current and recent clients
are: The Urban League of Portland, Big
Brothers Big Sisters, Constructing Hope,
Columbia Memorial Hospital, Catholic
Charities of Oregon, Oregon MESA, and
the Oregon Human Development Corpo-
ration.
The themes of this year’s work-
shop are: Introduction to Grant Writing,
Developing a Proposal, Funder Rela-
tions and Organizational Readiness, and
Funder Research. Participants will learn
how to initiate, describe, develop, and
fund projects that address the needs of
the community.
A networking lunch will be pro-
vided and is included in the registration
cost. Until April 30, the cost is $50 to
members of non-profits and government
agencies and $60 to the general public.
A $5 late charge will be added for those
who register after April 30. Registration
is limited.

Columbia County Cultural
Coalition Grant Recipients 2018
The Columbia County Cultural
Coalition is pleased to announce its grant
recipients for 2018. Grants to the amount
of $2,000 have been given to the follow-
ing non-profit organizations: St. Helens
Arts and Cultural Commission which is
sponsoring a two-day Blues and Folk
Music Workshop; Friends of Vernonia
Library for its Vernonia Newspaper Proj-
ect which will archive all newspapers
from the 1920s to the present in a new
medium in order to increase the accessi-
bility of these historic documents for stu-
dents and the general public; and Caples
House Museum to assist in its ongoing
restoration of historic Caples House.
Approved by the Oregon Cultur-
al Trust in 2006, the CCCC makes grants
to promote heritage, arts and humanities
in Columbia County. Initially working
under the Columbia County Board of
Commissioners, the CCCC has recently
attained autonomous non-profit 501 (c)
Special Summer Grant
Program Announced
Columbia County Cultural
Coalition is now offering a “Special
Summer Grant Program” for non-prof-
it organizations in Columbia County.
Grants of up to $750 will be awarded
for projects started and completed over
the summer. A total of $3,500 is avail-
able for this program. All projects must
follow CCCC’s mission to advance the
arts, preserve local heritage, and protect
cultural assets.
The Summer Grant applica-
tion form and guidelines are available
for download at www.columbiacul-
tural.org/forms. The deadline for ap-
plying is May 15. Successful propos-
als will be announced May 22. Grant
funds have been made possible by the
Oregon Community Foundation Small
Arts and Cultural Grant Program and
the Oregon Cultural Trust. Questions

Columbia County to Hold CPAC Elections

ICAID is scheduled to take
place on Wednesday, April 11,
2018 from 6:00-8:00 pm in the
Columbia County Law Library,
which is located at 270 S. First
St. in St. Helens. The workshop
marks the 17th in the Lawyer
in the Law Library series being
hosted by the Law Library.

Columbia County will be
holding Citizen Planning Advisory
Committee (CPAC) elections, for those
positions that are vacant and those
positions whose terms have expired.
CPACs provide advice and
recommendations to the County Land
Use Planning program, including
applications being considered by the
Planning Department, the Planning
Commission, and the Board of County
Commissioners. Each CPAC has
seven members who serve for two-
year terms.
Each CPAC area is divided
into neighborhoods. Members
represent the neighborhood in which
they reside or own property. The
residents and/or property owners
within their neighborhood elect a
CPAC member to represent them. To
become officially elected a person

must receive at least five votes from
the neighborhood in which they reside
or own property. In order to be eligible
to vote you must show either picture
identification proving you are at least
18 years old and that you live in the
CPAC neighborhood where you will
cast your ballot; or a tax statement
proving that you own property within
the neighborhood where you are
voting. You may only vote once in
your CPAC area.
The CPAC elections will be
