6 in other words october19 2017 On the Shelves By Shannon Romtvedt The Library had a visit from Vernonia Academy students on Wednesday, October 11. Vernonia Academy is in its 1 st year in Vernonia, a school through Vernonia Outreach, Inc. A major element to education for students is community service. Nine students were at the library, decorating for Halloween, weeding, cleaning the library inside and out, and craft prep. Students were supervised by teacher, Kelly Marx, and the Assistant Executive Director of Oregon Outreach, Inc., Katie Carpenter. Students worked hard and did a great job. Halloween decorations have inspired kids to make their own ghosts to hang on the library tree, a project set up by Vernonia Academy volunteers. Thank you and we look forward to having you back! Thank you to Vernonia’s wonderful dentist, Dr. Christopher Scheuerman, and the Vernonia Cub Scouts for presenting Preschool Storytimes this month for our Community Helpers series! Kids are looking forward to visits from Vernonia’s Taekwondo instructor and a Police Officer to wrap up the series. If you are intersested in being a guest reader at one of our weekly storytimes, contact Shannon at the Library.
