6 in other words august17 2017 On the Shelves By Shannon Romtvedt Thank you to the Friends of the Vernonia Library for hosting the Book Sale at the Library over Jamboree weekend. The Book Sale is an annual fundraiser for the Friends of the Library. The Friends have supported many programs and library services. The Library has free Wi-Fi because of funding from the Friends, free books to hand out at the Summer Reading program, craft supplies, movie programs, children’s performers, and books and dvds for the Library collection. Because the Book Sale takes many, many volunteer hours, the Friends of the Library are looking at other fundraiser opportunities in lieu of a Spring Book Sale. If you are interested in supporting the Library, enter a ticket into a raffle for a chance to win a $50.00 gift card to McMenamins. $1 equals 1 chance to win. A winner will be selected at the Friends quarterly meeting in October. If interested in volunteering with the Friends, we need more members! Contact the Library (503) 429-1818. August is a fairly quiet time at the Library; an opportunity for staff to reset and develop programs for the fall. Many of the extra programs we offer are put on by volunteers or require volunteer assistance. Now is a good time to meet with me if you have an idea of something you would like to see at the Library. We look for programs that meet community needs and have volunteers interested in helping. Please contact me at the Library if you have an idea to share. It’s very helpful having community input. Upcoming Events Learn how to make a Triangle Shawl with Caitlin Hunter. Contact the Library or boylandknitworks@gmail. com if interested in the class and if you need materials; class members are encouraged to bring their own if possible.
