Jamboree Car Show Rebuilt
For the first time since
2008 the Vernonia Friendship
Jamboree was host to the “Run
What Ya Brung & Rat Rod Reviv-
al Car Show, organized by Mike
Snow.
Following the successful
show, Snow offered his thanks to
the sponsors, R&S Market, Black
Bear Coffee, Tommy’s Tinting,
Mike Pihl Logging, Vernonia
Dental, and Frank & Patty Schrier
of Vernonia. “We have put the building
blocks in place to bring this show back
to Vernonia,” said Snow.
“We had 40 cars and I was
pleased with the results,” added Snow.
“The coolest thing that happened was we
had several Vernonians that stopped by
out of the blue to help make it easier for
us to set up and tear down before and af-
ter the show, just out of pure enthusiasm
for the event!”
Snow noted that several entries
traveled from some distance to partici-
pate including a pair from Oregon City,
Kelso and Longview, Tigard, St. Helens,
Clatskanie, Rainier, Banks and Forest
Grove. “From my standpoint, that’s im-
pressive!” said Snow.
Snow was also pleased with a
new twist to this year’s show. “We had a
couple of ‘single owner/multiple entries’
this year. We had a couple from
Vernonia, Mike and Christine
Mihalisko, bring three Mopars,
‘64 Plymouth Satellite, ‘73
Plymouth Cuda and ‘70 Plym-
outh Roadrunner, which won
the ‘Most Likely To Get Pulled
Over’ award. And Chris and
Erin Scheuerman of Verno-
nia brought in four VWs from
their incredible private collec-
tion, a ‘65 VW Deluxe Bus,
‘71 VW Westfalia Camper, ‘73
VW Type 181 Thing and ‘59 VW Type 2
Single Cab Flatbed.”
Overall Snow was pleasantly
surprised with the results of the show
and the feedback from his audience.
“We got a lot of comments from the
show and we expect it to double or more
by next year,” said Snow.
He said people really liked the
unique judging system which did not
include classes. In-
stead judges grade
each car on a scale
of 1 to 10, regard-
less of what it is.
“If a ride hits a 7.5
on the scale, we put
it in a group of 7.5s
and debate on the
winner. Makes it
equal for everyone,”
said Snow.
Up for grabs
were ten “Best Ten of
Ten” awards and three
hand built awards. Jeffrey Crouse of
Scappoose took home the “Grand Rat
Award.”
Another twist this year was the
addition of the “350 Smallblock Tear-
down & Rebuild” contest.
Local Vernonian Matt Po-
etter was the winner over
Scott Ross of Clatskanie
by 9/10 of a second and
walked away with the
$250 grand prize spon-
sored by Louis Lardy’s
Mechanic Shop.
“A good time was had
by all and the Jamboree
Car Show has been re-
built,” said Snow.
