CASA’s Benefit Raises Over $11,000
for Columbia County Foster Youth
CASA’s 4th Annual Columbia
County Benefit Breakfast raised
over $11,000 for CASA’s mission of
advocating for Columbia County’s
most vulnerable foster youth. Generous
community members, partners, and
foundations helped to make this year’s
event a great success.
All funds raised at the event
directly support CASA’s work in
Columbia County; funding will go
towards the recruitment, training, and
support of CASA volunteers to serve
more local children in foster care.
Since expanding services into
Columbia County in 2015, CASA for
Children has more than tripled the
annual number of children served by
a Court Appointed Special Advocate
(CASA). CareOregon was Presenting
Sponsor for the breakfast held on
Tuesday, June 13 at Meriwether Place
in St. Helens.
NW Natural presented a
Challenge Match of $5,000 at the
breakfast, in support of CASA’s
work, and to motivate guests to make
their most generous gift to CASA for
Children.
Inspirational speakers included
Columbia County Commissioner Henry
Heimuller, the Honorable Judge Cath-
leen Callahan of the Columbia County
Circuit Courts, Columbia County CASA
volunteer Linda Rusch, Mary Moerlins
of NW Natural, and Heather Lewis,
member of The Oregon Community
Foundation’s North Coast Leadership
Council who presented a $10,000 grant
from the Anna Wheeler Hayes Fund
and The William H. Hunt Fund for the
Homeless, Hungry and Poor of The Or-
egon Community Foundation.
Other notable guests included
the Honorable Judge Ted Grove and the
Honorable Jenefer Stenzel Grant, both
of the Columbia County Circuit Courts,
Columbia
County
Commissioner
Margaret Magruder, members of
the Bikers Against Child Abuse Mt.
Hood Chapter, Columbia County
DHS representatives, CASA Board of
Directors Members Trey Slinkard and
Betsy Granger, and founding Executive
Director of CASA for Children Susan
Holloway. Guests enjoyed a breakfast
provided by Brown Butter Bakery, and
coffee provided by Starbucks.
