Columbia County is looking for
parks enthusiasts residing in the county
to serve on its Parks Advisory Commit-
tee. Two citizens are needed to complete
the roster.
“Our county has beautiful parks,
and we’re looking for people who have
a passion for outdoor recreation to make
them even better,” said Cathryn Ham-
mond, committee chair. “With parks be-
ing newly developed and a master plan
to update, someone with master plan-
ning or marketing expertise would be a
good fi t.”

NOW HIRING Seasonal Park Ranger
Assistants- $2,200 - $2,996 Monthly.
The Park Ranger Assistant performs a
variety of duties in operation, mainte-
nance, interpretation, rule enforcement
and resource conservation. To qualify,
applicants must have six months of
experience (paid or unpaid) perform-
ing public contact or customer service
duties (e.g. Teacher, Customer Service
Representative, Salesperson, Recep-
tionist, etc.) and/or maintenance experi-
ence (construction trades, landscaping,
custodial, etc.); OR six months of col-
lege in any discipline (24 quarter hours /
16 Semester Hours). Application materi-
als must be submitted through the State

for parks and recreation is welcome,”
she added.
Committee members serve
four-year terms. They review, advise
and make recommendations to parks
staff and the Columbia County Board
of Commissioners on matters related to
the county’s parks and marine facilities.
This includes policy, operations, devel-
opment, budget considerations, design
and long range planning. Committee
members also participate in events and
assist in promoting parks facilities and
activities.
Upcoming projects include
updating and streamlining the current
Master Plan. First written in 1993 and
updated in 2004, Hammond said the
plan includes parks the county no longer
manages, some not in use and others that
Trail, Dibblee Beach, Prescott Beach
and Hudson Park is also on the commit-
tee’s agenda.
Dibblee Beach access has been
expanded through a new lease from
the Oregon Department of State Lands.
Hammond noted that options for the
115-acre park in Rainier may include
adding a host site, boat access, horse
trails and fi shing facilities.
The committee is also looking
to improve facilities at Prescott Beach
on the banks of the Columbia River in
Rainier, as well as those at the historic
Hudson Park, a popular park also in
Rainier.
Currently the Parks Advisory
Committee meets on the second Wednes-
day of the month at 4:00 pm. Meetings
are open to the public. Hammond urged
those interested in serving to attend the
April 12 meeting, which will take place

is March 31. Appointment to the com-
mittee is subject to confi rmation by the
Columbia County Board of Commis-
sioners.

Bottle Bill Redemption Value Increases to 10¢ April 1
The Oregon Liquor Control
Commission reminds customers, retail-
ers, and manufacturers that the redemp-
tion value for eligible containers covered
under Oregon’s Bottle Bill will increase
from 5 cents to 10 cents beginning April
1, 2017.
As of April 1, 2017 all eligible
containers will receive a 10 cent refund
regardless of the amount shown on the
container. Containers redeemed before
April 1, 2017 will be refunded at the rate
of 5 cents per container.
The following types of beverage
containers, size three liters or less, are
currently included in Oregon’s Bottle
Bill:
• Water/Flavored Water
• Soda Water/Mineral Water
• Carbonated Soft Drinks
• Beer/Malt Beverages
“We want to make the transition
as smooth as possible for customers, re-
tailers, and manufacturers,” says OLCC
Executive Director Steve Marks. “Our
goal is to provide resources for retailers
so that they can help get the word out to
consumers.”
To ease the conversion and
avoid confusion for customers, the Or-
egon Liquor Control Commission has
made a variety of tools available for re-
tailers to post in store, at the cash regis-
ter, and at reverse vending areas to help
inform customers prior to the change.
