6 city news february16 2017 On the Shelves By Shannon Romtvedt Aft er receiving more survey responses distributed through the uti lity bill, the Library received 135 surveys. Thank you again to everyone who parti cipated. A summary of survey results will be presented at the City Council meeti ng on March 6. A summary will also be available at the library for anyone interested in seeing the results. Thank you to Jim Buxton and CiCi Bell for an excellent presentati on on the Total Solar Eclipse, August 21, 2017. The presentati on was held on Thursday, February 2 with 20 att endees. We have extra copies at the library of a resource list if anyone is interested in doing their own research. The library will also be receiving free eclipse viewers to distribute through the Space Science Insti tute (SSI). According to SSI, over 1,700 libraries across the nati on have registered to host an eclipse event and distribute eclipse viewers! Coming up for children, Get Rhythm at the Library, a music series in April funded by the Columbia County Cultural Coaliti on, Friends of the Vernonia Library, Vernonia Lions Club, and individual sponsors. Featuring a performance on Tuesday, April 4, 6:30 pm Andy Ferguson of Red Yarn – Folk Music and Puppetry and an Oregon Symphony Storyti me on Friday, April 14, 10:30 am with percussionist Gordon Rencher. Upcoming Events Author Visit: Willy Vlautin Tuesday, February 21, 6:30 pm Willy Vlauti n is a nati onally recognized author of four novels including Lean on Pete and The Free. He founded the band Richmond Fontaine in 1994 and put out a debut album in 2014 with his new band, The Delines. He currently lives in Scappoose, Oregon. His Vernonia visit will focus on the book Lean on Pete, with a Q&A about his novel and song writi ng. He will be bringing his guitar and books to sign.
