Allen LeRoy Maller Allen LeRoy Maller, 73, a resident of the McMin- nville community, passed away on Wednesday afternoon, January 4, 2017 while traveling in California. Allen was born on February 10, 1943 in Forest Grove, OR. He was one of four children raised by Roy and Mary Mabel (Marsh) Maller. He received his educa- tion in Banks and Forest Grove. He started working in the fi elds as a young man and worked all the rest of his life. He got started in the truck- ing business and had either log trucks or freight trucks. He was primarily an independent operator working in Oregon and Alaska. He met his future wife, Anita Herinckx, at Maxine’s Café in Banks. They courted for about 2 years and they were married on March 26, 1963 in Lovelock, NV. They then fol- lowed his career which led them to SE Alaska, Anchorage, Vernonia and then in 2007 to McMinnville. Allen enjoyed work- ing and spending time with his family. He liked fi shing and hunting. He kept up with cur- rent events and enjoyed travel- ing, especially Yuma, Arizona to get to warmer weather in the winter. He is preceded in death by his parents, a son Clyde and three siblings. He is survived by his loving wife Anita; three children and their spouses, Sam and Diane Maller of Vernonia, Greg Maller of Willamina, and Debbie and Dave Kroener of Wasilla, Alaska; eight grandchildren, Stella, Mickell, Thomas, Natalie, Jamey, Heather, James, and Jeffery; and six great grandchildren, Dylan, Connor, Hunter, Tyler, Spencer and Jacelyn. The family suggest donations in Allen’s name to the American Heart Association. Nancy Elizabeth Elliott July 24, 1942 - Feb. 23, 2016 Nancy Elizabeth El- liott, 73, of Portland, passed away February 23, 2016, from natural causes after a nine-year battle with cancer. Nancy was born July 24, 1942 in Eugene, the only daughter of Herb and Edna Gas- kill. She grew up on the family farm with a kid goat, Nellie, as her pet. Graduating from North Eugene High School in 1960, Nancy then earned her under- graduate degree from the Uni- versity of Oregon in 1964. She became one of the fi rst women to participate in a business ex- change program with Finland in 1963 and brought home a love of Scandinavian design. After earning her M.B.A. graduate degree from Portland State Uni- versity in 1985, she became ac- tive in education and earned her superintendent’s certifi cate in 1996. Nancy was married to David in 1965. The couple moved to Portland and had two sons, Stephen (1969) and Chris- topher (1973). Devoted to her family and friends, Nancy host- ed summer visitors from Eng- land and Finland, volunteered as a Cub Scout leader and was active with the PTA at the boys’ school. Her early career in- volved working for Meier & Frank, the Girl Scouts and her local church. She drove her HELP WANTED The Upper Nehalem Watershed Council seeks Seasonal Reforestation Specialist. Education soon be- came the focus of her career, fi rst as a budget liaison offi cer for Portland Public Schools and then as principal of Vernonia High School. She was active as a leader in the Oregon Edu- cation Association. Her career culminated as the director of education and special education for the North Coast Youth Cor- rectional Facility in Warrenton, where she helped to positively change the lives of many youths and offered them hope through learning in a supportive envi- ronment.
