Vernonia Florist Blossoms in New Location
Vernonia Florist has moved
across the street to a new location at 711
Bridge Street and is featuring all new
items.
The shop will celebrate its
Grand Opening on December 3 with
new displays and gift items for the
upcoming holiday season. Store owners
Lisa and Ben Edgar invite you to stop by
and see all they have to offer at their new
location.
The store will continue to
provide fl owers, plants, and balloons
for all occasions, including weddings,
birthdays,
proms
and
school dances, holidays
like
Valentine’s
Day
and Mother’s Day, and
funerals.
Just in time for the
holiday shopping season,
Vernonia Florist will feature
several unique gift ideas
including fun soaps and
perfumes from Soap and
Paper Factory, build your
own spa baskets from a
selection of affordable
bath products, slate cheese
boards, kitchen linens, and
fun hats, scarves, jewelry and
birdhouses. And of course
there will be Christmas and
other holiday decorations,
table center pieces, and
handmade wreathes, during
this time of year.
Lisa notes that Vernonia Flo-
rist is a participating business in the
Columbia County “Catch the Holiday
Spirit” program that encourages local
shopping. You can pick up a stamp
card with all the details, along with
a list of all businesses taking part, at
Vernonia Florist.
The Edgars will continue to
offer potted plants and this spring
will have hanging fl ower baskets as
well. “I’m trying to stay involved
in the agricultural industry which
is what I really like and want to be
doing,” says Lisa. “By adding more
gift items we hope to encourage more
people to stop by to shop and see
what we have to offer.”
Ben noted that often the per-
ception is that shopping in Vernonia
is always more expensive than it is
outside of town. “That’s not always
true,” says Ben. “A lot of our fl ower
arrangements are a lot less expensive
than they would be from a
fl orist outside of town.” Lisa
notes that she sells a dozen
roses for $54.99 and the
quality of her roses is much
higher than you would get at
some larger shopping loca-
tions.
Lisa says her fl owers
come from the Swan Island
Flower Market, where her
fi rst stop is always at the
Oregon Flower Growers
Association booth so she

Another option Vernonia Florist
offers is food or fruit baskets that Lisa
can prepare and deliver in lieu of fl owers
following a death.
Vernonia Florist is open
Tuesdays through Fridays from 10:00
am until 6:00 pm and Saturdays 10:00
am to 4:00 pm, but Lisa says to please
call if you need something on other
days; she is happy to come in and make
an arrangement if needed.

available while supporting
local Oregon fl ower growers
when she can, rather than
buying fl owers imported
from other countries. She
says all her plants are grown
in Oregon green houses
and plans to offer more
landscaping plants and
fl owers this spring, along
with potted trees.
Another unique offering
that Vernonia Florist will
feature are portraits draw by
Ben Edgar. Ben specializes
in pet portraits which he can
create from a photo of your
favorite furry friend at a
reasonable cost.
Vernonia Florist does
offer delivery services for
their fl owers and arrangements
and have expanded into Banks
and Forest Grove with those
services. They hope that local
customers will remember
to buy local when they have
fl oral needs for funerals
and holidays. They are
also happy to consult with
anyone planning a wedding.
“We feel like we have a lot
to offer on the customer
service side of things,”
says Lisa. “We have a lot
of props like table center
pieces, linens, arbors, and
things that we’ve collected
over the years. We have
connections at local event
venues and churches. We
even have a dance fl oor! So
we encourage people to contact us
before they buy or rent something
