Regional Solutions Team Visits Vernonia
On Tuesday, September 27,
2016 members of the North Coast Re-
gional Solutions Team met in Vernonia
with City Administrator Josette Mitchell
for an update on current projects the City
is undertaking. Established by Oregon
Governor Executive Order, Regional
Solutions teams include key members of
governmental agencies, along with local
state legislators, and assist communities
with unique economic and community
development projects to develop pri-
orities, solve problems, and capitalize
on opportunities. Regional Solutions
is a spin-off of Governor Kitzhaber’s
original Oregon Solutions concept that
worked with the Vernonia Community
to site and secure resources for the con-
struction of the Vernonia School cam-
pus. The Regional Solutions Team has
continued to stay engaged with the Ver-
nonia commu-
nity and received
an update at this
meeting
from
Vernonian Sha-
ron Bernal on

upcoming
Vernonia School
Bond.
The
group also dis-
cussed the Rose
Avenue Project
and the construc-
tion of the new
Senior Center/
Food Bank fa-
cility, the California Avenue Project,
and the Waste Water Treatment Project.

2016 Vernonia Salmon Festival
This year’s Salmon Festival had great
attendance, with visitors enjoying activities for
kids, good food, fresh produce and other vendors,
and music by Tommy Disco, until a vicious
downpour chased almost everyone off in the
middle of the
afternoon.
Those rains
did bring
some salmon
swimming
upstream,
which
thrilled
those who
remained
through the
fall rains.
