Kiara Single Crowned Dairy Princess
Kiara Single was crowned as
Columbia County’s new Dairy Princess
Ambassador (DPA) on April 13, 2016
by Lucy Kyle-Milward, outgoing DPA.
Kiara is the daughter of John
and Susie Single of Warren, Oregon.
John works at the Portland dairy
processing plant for Kroger Foods.
Susie, a homemaker, also homeschools
Kiara’s two sisters and a brother. Kiara
is a junior at Concordia University
in Portland, majoring in elementary
education. During the month of May,
Kiara traveled to Germany to learn about
their educational system.
Kiara’s coronation in April, was
held at Sauvies Island Grange where the
Hills Came Alive with the “Sound of
Moosic.” An array of appetizers, desserts,
ice cream sundaes and of course milk,
was served by the Columbia County
Dairy Women, (CCDW) who sponsor
the DPA program and scholarships to
graduating seniors.
Heidi Wismer, a former county
and state Dairy Princess Ambassador,
emceed the event. Guest judge David
Wismer, a Dairy Farmer of Wismer Dairy
replied a Holstein. Her little sister even
got into the act, answering an impromptu
question of her own on dairy breeds.
Before the crowning moment,
Lucy Kyle-Milward, outgoing Dairy
Princess Ambassador, highlighted
an eventful year and was presented
scholarship awards graciously donated
by area businesses and organizations.
Lucy is currently a sophomore at Oregon
State University majoring in business.
Lucy then crowned Kiara as Columbia
County Dairy Princess Ambassador
2016-2017.
Kiara’s year long reign takes
her throughout Oregon and Columbia
County to educate the public about the
health benefits of dairy products, dairy
in Gaston, Oregon, interviewed Kiara
just before the event. She then presented a
milk commercial and delivered a speech
on “Milk; The Ultimate Replenishment
Drink” to dairy dignitaries, visitors and
visiting royalty. She was also asked an
impromptu question about her favorite
breed of dairy cow, to which she

farming and the dairy industry. Catch
Kiara at the Columbia County Fair &
Rodeo July 20-24, 2016 where she will
present awards at the Dairy Show; be at
the Dairy Women’s Booth and around
the Fair all week long watching her
siblings show in 4-H. She has a busy
itinerary of farmers markets, state fair,
parades, school visits and community
events such as the Vernonia Friendship
Jamboree the first weekend in August.
