In Memory of...
Elmer Morford
Elmer Morford passed away
March 30, 2016 at home with his wife
and daughters by his side. He was 82.
On October 24th, 1933 Elmer
Dale Morford was born to Norma
(Wigle) and Dale Morford in Junction
City, Oregon. He joined an older brother
Floyd. He spent most of his childhood
in that area. Elmer married Juanita Allen
in 1958. They had two children, Elita
and Monty. They moved to Vernonia and
bought the Cut and Curl Room Beauty
Salon in 1965. Elmer started working for
Holce Logging running cat and building
roads. He loved the outdoors. He loved
elk hunting with his brother and friends.
He also enjoyed deer hunting in Eastern
Oregon with Ed and Edith Roediger. He
took his family camping, fishing and
water skiing at Detroit Lake. He was
divorced after 25 years.
He was introduced to LaVonne
Bergstrom by mutual friends and they
married in June of 1984. Lavonne
brought two daughters and one son, all
grown with children to the marriage.
They made their home in Corvallis
where he hauled logs for Thompson
Timber. When he retired, they moved to
Mist, Oregon to be close to his daughter
Elita, son-in-law, and grandsons. Elmer
then delivered parts for Peerless and
General Trailer. He got to meet some of
his old logging friends and made many
new ones. He became an avid gardener.
They spent many winters in Arizona
with friends. They also loved camping
and fishing, and spent a lot of time at
Detroit Lake.
They moved to Clatskanie for a
few years and then to Spring Meadows
Assisted Living in St. Helens. There
he made many friends and had the best
of care. Everyone there loved him. He
was always teasing and making them
laugh. They even voted him King on
Valentine’s Day and LaVonne Queen.
He was preceded in death by
his parents and a step-daughter, Denise
Rands. He is survived by his wife
LaVonne in St. Helens, his daughter
Elita (Rick) Davis – 2 grandsons
and 5 great granddaughters; his son
Monty Morford – one granddaughter;
his stepdaughter Barbara (David)
Anderson – 3 grandchildren and 5 great
grandchildren; and his stepson Jim
(Carlita) Bloodsworth – 5 grandchildren
and 14 great grandchildren; his brother
Floyd (Artice) Morford – 3 nephews and
1 niece, and many cousins.
As per his request, there will be
no service. A private celebration of life
for the family will be this summer at
Detroit Lake.
The family wishes to thank
the staff at Spring Meadows Assisted
Living for the wonderful care that they
gave Elmer and his girls. They were
compassionate and caring. They provide
a great service to their residents.

Public Certification Test and Drop
Sites for the General Election to be
held Tuesday, May 17, 2016
The Public Certification Test of the counting equipment for the
Oregon Primary Election to be held on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 will be held
on Tuesday, May 10, 2016. The testing will begin at 10:00 am in the County
Elections Department. The public is welcome to attend.
Ballots must be received by the county clerk no later than 8:00 pm on
May 17, 2016 - postmarks do not count. The US Postal Service has stated that
ballots could take up to 5-7 days to reach county elections offices once they
are put in the mail. It is advised that if you can not put your ballot in the mail
before May 12, 2016 you should plan on returning your ballot to a dropsite.

4-H Summer Camp 2016
The annual 4-H Summer Camp
will be held June 19-22, 2016 at Camp
Kiwanilong in Warrenton, Oregon.
The 4 day/3 night program includes
archery, nature hikes, wildlife programs,
field games, crafts, and campfires.

Darrell McKee was born in
Brewster, Washington to Ralph and
Pauline McKee March 28, 1935.
Residing most of his youth in Vernonia,
Oregon, he graduated as president of
the class of 1953 from Vernonia High
School.
Darrell McKee and Sharon
Aldrich were married March 10,
1956, and recently celebrated 60 years
together. Darrell and Sharon moved to
Alaska in 1957 and soon after purchased
a homestead in Soldotna. The family
moved back to Vernonia in 1963,
purchased a farm and enjoyed farming,
boating, camping, hunting, fishing and
family gatherings.
In 1967 Darrell began a
business, McKee Logging and Trucking
which resulted in moving to Longview.
The business became very successful
and Darrell was highly respected and
admired by his friends, employees and
others whom he did business with.
Darrell operated the business with his
son Mark and after more than 30 years
of hard work he retired.
Darrell had an extraordinary
love for his wife and family. He enjoyed
traveling to Mexico with friends, many
trips in their motorhome, woodworking
and tinkering on Arnold, a 1929 Model
A. One of his more recent favorite
pastimes was watching the activity and
sunsets on the Columbia River from the
deck of their home. Darrell created an
amazing life leaving no stone unturned.
Darrell is survived by his
wife Sharon; a son, Mark McKee of
Longview, Washington; three daughters,
Lori Stock of Milton, Washington,
Dana Montgomery of Portland, and
Beth McKee of Lake Oswego, Oregon;
seven grandchildren; eight great-
grandchildren; and two sisters, Sharron
Rockwood of Vernonia, and Peggy
McKee of Auburn, Washington.
A memorial service is planned
for 2:00 pm May 6 at Steele Chapel at
Longview Memorial Park & Crematory,
5050 Mount Solo Road, in Longview.
The family requests donations be
made to the Humane Society of Cowlitz
County, P.O. Box 172, Longview, WA
