ODFW Rolls Out Free Family Fishing Events in 2016
The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife
invites Oregon families to come fishing at one of several
free Family Fishing events scheduled in Columbia
County this spring and summer.
These popular events take place in some great
places and are typically stocked in advance with a lot
of fish. On top of that, ODFW provides loaner rods,
reels, tackle and bait, along with helpful tips from
experienced angling instructors.
The events are designed to show families
how easy and fun fishing can be, according to Shahab
Farzanegan, ODFW angler education coordinator.
“Our goal is to make it as easy as possible for
a family to experience a successful fishing trip,” he
said. “We hope everyone has a good time at the event
and discover fishing is an activity they can enjoy for a
lifetime.”
Local events are scheduled for:
• April 23, Rainier, Trojan Pond, 9:30 am to 2 pm
• May 7, Vernonia, Vernonia Mill Pond, 9 am to 2 pm
Children ages 11 years old and younger can fish
for free, while those 12 to 17 and adults will need an
Oregon fishing license. The new Youth License is only
$10 for 12 to 17 year olds. Licenses can be purchased
at ODFW’s Online License Sales page or from any
ODFW field office or retail license outlet. Licenses will
not be sold at the event.
For families that can’t attend one of the
scheduled events, ODFW offers several resources to
help you go fishing on your own, including:

My host partner and I thought that was

We, as ambassadors for the

this an enjoyable experience for the team

think this year we were outdone by your
team and staff and students with the
great way they presented themselves. I
feel this is a direct result of the class that
this school and townspeople possess.

The reason that they are as a
group delaying and holding back and not
creating bipartisan actions or legislation
is because we elected a black President.
I have watched from the time
President Barak Obama took office, the
Republican senators and congress people
resist President Obama’s authority.
There have been constant assertions
that President Obama is not actually an
American, that he is too progressive, that
he won’t work with the Republicans, that

is that he is African American. And that
is why he is not taken seriously.
The majority of people in
America elected him but the ones who
didn’t are not only sore losers but racist.
They refuse to accept and acknowledge
that he was fairly elected and that he
holds as much authority as any standing
President.

shameful. I am beyond disappointed
in the lack of civility and respect that
President Obama has received. I am
also upset that this racism has not been
identified openly. I have watched as a
private citizen for all these years but now
that the senate is refusing to consider the
person President Obama nominated for
the Supreme Court I feel I have to speak
up.
It is despicable that this President
is being treated with such disdain. No
President deserves to be treated this way,
period. I can’t stand by and pretend this
is just a partisan fight. It is clearly and
surely racism. This is America.
Shame on us for being so
xenophobic. I can’t be silent and I do
not in any way condone this behavior.
I must speak out and call out improper
behavior. This must stop.
