Mike and Mary.

On February 28, 1990 Sharlet
lost a long battle with cancer, and Ron
became a widower. Shortly after Ron
married Beverly Jones in McMinnville,
Oregon on November 16, 1990. He had
found love and was living with a smile
on his face once again. Bev brought
three adult children into the family:
Belinda, Sandy and Wally.

Bev and Ron loved going on car
trips traveling the Oregon Coast, Central
Oregon, Washington and Reno, Nevada.
They just loved spending time together.

Until retirement, Ron worked
in the lumber industry loving every
aspect of it. Because he had to always
stay busy, he could often be found in his
wood shop making things for the people
he loved most, his family. Ron also
loved car shows, driving the back roads
and still on occasion could be found in
the woods hunting or target shooting.

Bev preceded him in death in
March of 2014.

Ron is survived by his children
Mike (Kathi) Fetch of Vernonia,
Oregon; Mary (Greg) Tibbot of Salem,
Oregon; Julia Porter of Salem, Oregon;
Jennifer Porter Cobert of Sutherlin,
Oregon; and many grandchildren and
great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death
by his parents, sister Nancy Townes,
sister Betty Perez, and grandson Zack
Rumbolz.

Funeral Services were held

Things to Ponder:
Did He Really Mean It?
By Grant Williams

When Jesus spoke it was pow-
erful. His sermons lifted people’s spir-
its. His parables made even the most
learned think, and often left them dumb-
founded. The “Sermon on the Mount”
was certainly one of His most eloquent
and poignant sermons.

Part of the “Sermon on the
Mount,” found in Matthew 5:3-12 pro-
claims, “Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they
shall be comforted. Blessed are the
meek, for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst
for righteousness, for they will be filled.
Blessed are the merciful, for they will be
shown mercy. Blessed are the pure in
heart, for they will see God. Blessed are
the peacemakers, for they will be called
the sons of God. Blessed are those who
are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are you when people insult you,
persecute you and falsely say all kinds
of evil against you because of Me. Re-
joice and be glad, because great is your
reward in heaven, for in the same way
they persecuted the prophets who were
before you.”

This part of Jesus’ sermon re-
minds me how important it was to Him
to emphasize the things that will bring
a believer closer to God and give them
peace. Jesus is speaking directly to
the heart of anyone who wants to leave
the old way of living behind and adopt

God’s way of living.

Did you notice that Jesus didn’t
preach a shopping list of “thou shalt
nots?” He gave us a valuable list of
positive attitudes and behaviors that
will revolutionize anyone’s life who
will listen. The human heart longs for
the things Jesus is talking about. He is
making it clear, if you want to be blessed
(happy in God’s way) you will not only
try to do these things, you will make
them your life goals.

It is important to make a dis-
tinction between self-righteousness
and Godliness. Self-righteousness is
derived in a person’s own mind when
they live up to their own legalistic stan-
dards. Godliness is the result of living
by His standards and obeying His com-
mands. The people who are truly con-
cerned about living as God would have
us live are more concerned about what
He thinks than our opinion of ourselves
or what others think.

Often people confuse their own
interpretation of the Scripture for God’s
will for everyone else but themselves.
Let me offer a word of caution. Many
times when we condemn the actions of
others we fail to see our own short com-
ings in the list we found their problem.
Later in the “Sermon on the Mount” Je-
sus said in Matthew 5:20, “For I tell you
that unless your righteousness surpasses
that of the Pharisees and the teachers of
the law, you will certainly not enter the
kingdom of heaven.”

Jesus is offering life! Will you
embrace it?
