schools november5 Faith West Offers Christian Education for Students For the first time in over 30 years Banks Christian Academy didn’t open their doors to a new school year this past fall. The doors didn’t re- main shut however, as Faith Bible Christian School (FBCS) was able to meet with church and school leaders to continue operations and start the 2015 school year. Expanding FBCS to the Vernonia/Banks area was not something that was part of any specific plan. “Keeping Christian education in the com- munity was extremely important to us and we are thrilled to be able to offer a high quality Christian education in such a great community,” explained Faith’s Superintendent Kevin Rex about his re- sponse upon hearing that BCA was closing, Faith Bible now has three campuses with the addition of the Faith West campus. It is that existing infrastructure that is already in place that aids in pro- viding students at Faith West with so many more op- portunities than ever before. Students will now be able to continue their education in high school at the Hillsboro campus and a bus route has been established from Vernonia to help with transportation needs for parents and students. The administration has aligned the Faith West curriculum and instructional strategies to those of the other cam- puses and adopted extra-curricular activities to further student involvement. 2015 9 opportunity to receive their education from a Bibli- cal worldview. The objective of FBCS is to train up children in the way they should go and to serve others in their community. FBCS will be hosting a Preview Night at all three campuses in early November. This is a great opportunity for interested families to tour the cam- pus and meet teachers and coaches. Faith Bible’s PK - 8th grade campus in Aloha provides Faith West students the opportunity to play sports, go on annual school retreats to the coast, attend outdoor school, and attend field trips together. There is also a bus route through Vernonia, North Plains and Banks to Faith West. “It is really great to see all the campuses come together and become one big family,” says Faith’s mar- keting director Eddie Kirkpatrick. “As you talk to stu- dents and faculty at Faith there is an excitement and ongoing anticipation about all the things God is doing.” Kirkpatrick added that financial aid is avail- able to qualifying families so that every student has an Lady Loggers Make Playoffs - Miss Chance for State Tournament The Vernonia Lady Loggers ended their season with a loss in the first round of the state playoffs, falling 0-3 to Bonanza. The Lady Loggers ended their season in third place in the Northwest League following 3-0 playoff wins over both Nestucca and Gaston. ranked 11 th in 2A. This season marked the fifth year in a row that head coach Teresa Williams has led the Lady Loggers into the state playoffs. At the conclusion of the league playoffs, seniors Sarah Smith, Paige Smith and Mckenzie Titus were named The Lady Loggers First Team All League, and finished with a 15-7 overall senior Kassidy Fetch was named record and a 10-2 league record.
