6 city news february19 2015 On The Shelves By Shannon Romtvedt Library Craft Boxes are now available at the library! One for Pre-K and one for K-6. Crafts will be switched out every 3-4 weeks. Sign out for one of the boxes at the check-out desk and make a craft to take home. Crafts are generally themed to match a holiday or event. For the remainder of this month, kids can make Cat in the Hat masks in anticipation of Dr. Seuss’s Birthday at the beginning of March. Dr. Seuss’s Birthday (March 2) is celebrated by libraries every year, and has become a national event also known as the National Education Association’s (NEA) Read Across America Day. This year, the Vernonia Public Library is participating in the celebration with a program sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Come to the library on Tuesday, March 3, 6 pm and get a picture taken with the Cat in the Hat! Bring your own camera or the library will provide a picture for free. Find Dr. Seuss characters hidden throughout the library anytime between Monday, March 2 and Saturday, March 7, and enter a prize drawing. Interested in joining a Writers’ Group? The library will be hosting a monthly writers’ group, open to all levels of experience. Meetings will likely start with a prompt and follow with an opportunity to share work, ask questions, and seek support from other writers. We are looking for the best day and time to meet so if you are interested, please call, visit, or email the library. Leave your name, contact information, and days and times that work best for you. Friends of the Vernonia Library Spring Booksale is coming up Friday, March 13 – Sunday, March 15. Purchasing books from the sale is a way to support the library. Proceeds from the booksale help fund library programs and services. Please mark your calendars!
