U.S. Weather station at the
Vernonia Water Plant
can guarantee you a space. We will break
once in the morning and once in the
afternoon and have 45 minutes for lunch.
It’s a full day but very worth while.
The course includes current rules
of the road, defensive driving techniques,
and how to operate your vehicle more
safely in today’s increasingly challenging
driving environment. You will learn
adjustments to accommodate for common
age related changes in vision, hearing and
reaction time. Information on aggressive
drivers, air bags, seat restraints and new
technologies is provided.
The cost is just $15 for AARP
members and $20 for non-members.
Tuition is payable at the start of class
with checks made payable to AARP.
These courses are designed for
seniors 50 and older but anyone can
attend. Pre-registration is required and
seating is limited.
For most, Oregon State Law
provides for a discount on your auto
insurance premium for completing this
course. Attendance at the entire class is
required to receive your certificate of

Upcoming AARP Smart Driver Classes
In January AARP presents its
new “Smart Driver” program with new
student guidebooks and videos. We will
conduct two more classes in January.
This is a great opportunity to complete
a positive resolution to improve your
safety on the road.
On Thursday, January 22 Don
Hawley will be teaching at Lum’s
Auto, 1605 SE Ensign, Warrenton. This
location is not ADA accessible. Call

On Thursday, January 29
Ron Bline will be teaching at the Bob
Chisholm Center in Seaside at 1225
Avenue A. Call the Center at 503-738-

Free Smoke Alarms and
Installation to Mist-
Birkenfeld RFPD Residents
Mist-Birkenfeld RFPD has teamed up with the Office
of State Fire Marshal to bring our Fire District
members the Smoke Alarm Installation Program.
This program provides free, 10 year longevity smoke
alarms and installation to residents in participating
Fire Districts.
If you would like new, installed smoke alarms
for your home please call or come in to the Mist-

we will sign you up for the program. Deadline for
