Summer Meals Program
Continues Through August 21st
The Vernonia Summer Meals Program
is continuing through August 21. The organiz-
ers would like to remind you of the opportunity
for youth to get a free lunch during the week be-
tween 11:30 AM and 1:00 PM. The Vernonia
Summer Meals program is
pleased to report, on av-
erage, approximately 85
meals a day are being pro-
vided at the Grace Family
Fellowship located on State
and A Streets. Even greater,
general community mem-
bers are able to purchase a
meal for $2.50.
This year the program
was able to expand with a
generous grant awarded by
the USDA. This was an ef-
fort to meet the needs of students who depend on
free and reduced lunches outside of school dur-
ing the summer. However, anyone is welcome to
participate regardless of need. No proof of need
is required other than an appetite.
This is the 4 th year
of the Vernonia Summer
Meal program. The pro-
gram would not be able
to continue without their
local partners and volun-
teers. Please look on their
Facebook page for menus
and updates or contact
Volunteer Coordinator Nic
Welch at 503-748-5928 for
more information on how
to volunteer for this awe-
some program.
