After retiring, Glenn and Leslie built the home 
of their dreams on 10 acres in Redmond, Oregon. Here, 
Glenn was able to enjoy puttering around their property 
and building countless works of wooden art in his wood 
shop.
 
Glenn had a passion for his woodworking and 
had become quite accomplished with his craft. He also

Glenn “Shorty” Franklin Hawkins of Redmond,  enjoyed camping, fishing and target shooting. He was a 
OR, entered the gates of heaven at 2:55 PM on Monday,  gunsmith and a lifetime member of the NRA.
 
Glenn  is  survived  by  his  adoring  wife  of 
July 14, 2014. He was 71.
 
A  Memorial  Service  was  held  Saturday,  July  41  years,  Leslie  Eldean  Hawkins  of  Redmond,  OR; 
26, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Eagle Crest Conference Center,  daughter Renée (husband J.D.) Scott of Hillsboro, OR; 
daughter  Ginger  (husband  Michael)  Jolly  of  Aloha, 
located at 1522 Cline Falls Road in Redmond, OR.
 
Glenn was born February 2, 1943 in St. Helens,  OR.  Other  survivors  include  two  brothers,  Byron 
OR,  to  Glen  and  Marie  (Serafin)  Hawkins.  He  was  (wife  Evelyn)  Hawkins  of  Pine  Mountain,  GA;  and 
raised in Vernonia, OR, and graduated from Vernonia  William  (wife  Mary)  Hawkins  of  Hillsboro,  OR;  and 
High  School  in  1961.  On  February  3,  1973,  Glenn  six  grandchildren  whom  Glenn  was  the  most  proud 
of, Drew Scott, Dominic and Raquel Jolly, and Greg, 
married his sweetheart, Leslie Robbins.

Daniel Ward Lowrance
May 19, 1933-June 30, 2014
 
Daniel  Ward  Lowrance,  81,  a  resident  of  the 
Vernonia  community  passed  away  Monday  morning 
June 30, 2014 with his wife Marjorie by his side.
 
Dan  was  born  May  19,  1933  in  Denver, 
Colorado.  He was the youngest of five children born 
to  Hershel  and  Blanche  (Johnson)  Lowrance.    His 
mother often called him “Danny Boy” after an old Irish 
ballad.    He  was  raised  and  received  his  education  in 
Westchester, California.
 
After  high  school  Dan  enlisted  in  the  Navy, 
serving from July 1951 through July 1955 during the 
Korean War.  While in the Navy he was assigned to the 
USS Diachenko, a Rudderrow Class Destroyer Escort/
Crosley Class High Speed Transport ship.  His brother 
Wayne was also assigned to this ship during this time.  
The USS Diachenko participated in the bombardment 
and blockade  of  the Korean  coast in Wonsan  Harbor, 
North Korea.  Dan manned the ship’s “Big Gun” during 
this campaign.
 
After returning home from the Navy he met his 
future wife, Marjorie Dorr.  They were married in Las 
Vegas, Nevada in 1959 and at the time of his death they 
had been married for 55 years.  They made their home 
in  Redondo  Beach,  California  until  1971  when  they 
moved to the Sacramento area.  In 2005 when the great 
grandchildren began to arrive they moved to Vernonia 
to be closer to them.
 
Dan worked in the field of plumbing and for the 
last thirteen years of his career he was head plumber for 
the City of Sacramento.  He retired in 1992.
 
His interests included racing, camping, fishing, 
hunting,  music,  traveling  and  shooting.    For  many 
years  he  shot  competitively  at  the  Sacramento Valley 
Shooting  Center.    His  favorite  event  was  the  long 
range competitions.  Dan was an expert marksman.  He 
enjoyed the art of reloading and taught this skill to his 
sons and son-in-law.
 
He  is  survived  by  his  wife  Marjorie,  brother 
Wayne,  and  three  children,  daughter  Karen  (Craig) 
Headley  of  Vernonia;  their  children  Aaron  Daniel 
(Bailey)  Headley  of  Oak  Harbor,  Washington,  and 
Heather  (Brogan)  Graham  of  Vernonia;  son  Michael 
(Catie)  and  his  daughter  Cassidy  of  Sacramento;  son 
John  (Rachel)  of  Blythe,  California;  his  daughter 
Kayliegh and their son Jeg.  In addition he is survived
