Daniel Ward Lowrance, 81, a resident of the
Vernonia community passed away Monday morning
June 30, 2014 with his wife Marjorie by his side.
Dan was born May 19, 1933 in Denver,
Colorado. He was the youngest of five children born
to Hershel and Blanche (Johnson) Lowrance. His
mother often called him “Danny Boy” after an old Irish
ballad. He was raised and received his education in
Westchester, California.
After high school Dan enlisted in the Navy,
serving from July 1951 through July 1955 during the
Korean War. While in the Navy he was assigned to the
USS Diachenko, a Rudderrow Class Destroyer Escort/
Crosley Class High Speed Transport ship. His brother
Wayne was also assigned to this ship during this time.

After returning home from the Navy he met his

had been married for 55 years. They made their home
in Redondo Beach, California until 1971 when they
moved to the Sacramento area. In 2005 when the great
grandchildren began to arrive they moved to Vernonia
to be closer to them.
Dan worked in the field of plumbing and for the
last thirteen years of his career he was head plumber for
the City of Sacramento. He retired in 1992.
His interests included racing, camping, fishing,
hunting, music, traveling and shooting. For many
years he shot competitively at the Sacramento Valley
