Meet the New Dairy Princess
Ambassador for Columbia County
Teri
McGettigan
was crowned as Colum-
bia County’s Dairy Prin-
cess Ambassador (DPA) for
2014-2015 by Kiara Single
outgoing DPA.
Teri is the daughter
of Terry McGettigan and
Cora VanOsdol of Warren,
Oregon. She is a senior at
Oregon State University,
pursuing a degree in Agri-
cultural Management with
a minor in Animal Science.
Last year, Teri traveled the
state as Rodeo Queen repre-
senting Tillamook County.
She was a previous county
Dairy Princess Ambassa-
dor in 2011-2012. She is a
graduate of Scappoose High
School and former 4H mem-
ber, showing dairy, horse,
poultry, plus static exhibits. Besides her stud-
ies, she stays busy on her family farm.
Coronation was held Saturday, May
17, 2014 at the Sauvies Island Grange, which
was transformed into a lively “Moodi Gras”
celebration. Guests feasted on hors d’ oeu-
vres, desserts, ice cream sundaes and milk of
course, provided and served by the Columbia
County Dairy Women, who sponsor the coun-
ty Dairy Princess program. Heidi Wismer,
a former county and state DPA, emceed the
event. Teri was first interviewed by judge and
dairyman, David Wismer of Wismer Dairy
in Gaston, Oregon. She then presented a re-
quired milk commercial and a speech entitled
“Country Strong” to about
65 guests, dairy dignitaries
and visiting royalty.
Before the “crown-
ing moment,” Kiara Single,
highlighted her year as out-
going DPA and was present-
ed with scholarship awards,
graciously donated by area
businesses and organiza-
tions. Kiara will continue
her studies at Portland Com-
munity College this fall.
Princess Teri is al-
ready on a yearlong adven-
ture around the state and
county, appearing in pa-
rades, fairs and festivals;
fulfilling a mission to pro-
mote dairy products and ed-
ucate the public about dairy
farming and the dairy indus-
try. In January 2015, she
represents Columbia County at the Oregon
Dairy Princess Ambassador contest held in
Salem. She is available for guest appearances
at area events and schools to promote dairy

Hot Dogs For Sale
at ‘The Dog Park’
A new business, ‘The
Dog Park,’ officially opened
for business on August 1st dur-
ing Jamboree. The business, a
hot dog cart run by Eric Urban,
will be serving Hebrew National
all beef hot dogs and will be lo-
cated at the corner of Bridge and
Washington next to the Vernonia
Senior Center.
The business will be open
just through the rest of the sum-
mer and on selected weekends
through the fall. Hot Dogs will
cost $2. Toppings will include
ketchup, yellow and spicy brown
mustard, chopped onions, jalap-
enos and sweet relish. All will
be served on a steamed bun. You

can add chips and a drink to your
dog for just $1 each.
“This is mainly a sum-
mer business for me,” says Ur-
ban, who teaches Life Skills to
K through 8 special education
students at Vernonia Schools.
“Once school starts I will try to
be out at city events and on as
many sunny weekends as I can.”
Urban expressed thanks
to The Black Iron Grill & Black
Bear Coffee Company for let-
ting him use their kitchen for
food prep and clean up, and also
to The Sentry Market where he
orders and stores the hot dogs
and buys fresh onions and condi-
ments.

dogs to be sold on opening day of ‘The Dog Park.’
