Thursday, July 17th
11:00 AM Meet at the Dairy Creek
Amphitheater
Close Encounters of the Douglas Fir Kind
It’s kind of wild to think that the fir trees
around us were all planted by people for a
very specific reason. Those reasons have
changed now that Oregon State Parks is in
charge of them. Take a tour around the area
in which the program begins. No major effort
on your part but you may be standing and
walking for the longevity of the program.
Strolling on dirt trails and in open field areas
may be a part of the fun.
7:00 PM Meet at Hilltop Day-use Area
Sunset Hike to Skidder Row Viewpoint
Join a Park Ranger on a hike to one of the
highest points in the park to watch the sun
melt into the Mighty Coast Range! On this
moderately challenging hike we’ll explore
the amazing flora and fauna of the Pacific
Northwest.
Friday, July 18th
11:00 AM Meet at the Dairy Creek
Amphitheater
Knock! Knock!- Who’s there? It’s the
woodpeckers of Stub Stewart!
Learn about the various types of woodpeckers
at Stub Stewart on this guided walk and talk.
This short hike along our Heartwood Trail
examines woodpeckers and their appreciation
of our diverse ecological zones.

Not So Creepy Crawlers
Get an up-close view of the most amazing
and beautiful creatures around. Insects!

Do you like bats?! Whether the answer is yes
or no, come learn what bats are really like-you
may be surprised. Hear how you need bats
and bats need you, too.

Put a Bird on it!
Come learn the basics of birding from a park
ranger while we explore the trails of Stub
Stewart State Park in search of wildlife. No
experience? No problem. We provide the
guides, binoculars, and practice to get started.

Vernonia’s 16th Annual Community Garage Sale
The annual Community Wide Garage Sale will be held on Saturday,
August 23, 2014 from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Any resident or business
wishing to be included on the map can sign up by calling Helen Bate-
man at 503-429-6203. Deadline to sign up is Wednesday, August 20th.
The map showing sale locations will be available Friday, August 22nd
and the day of the sale at Vernonia Realty, 953 Bridge Street.
