Annual Camp 18
Logger’s Memorial
Dedication and Logging Show
Please plan to celebrate the
logging industry of the past and present
at the 5 th Annual Camp 18 Logger’s
Memorial Dedication and Logging
Exhibition.
The event will be held on
Saturday, May 10 at Camp 18 Logging
Museum located at milepost 18 on
Highway 26 in Elsie, OR. ADMISSION
IS FREE and everyone is welcome,
so round up your family, friends and
neighbors and enjoy a day of sawdust
flying, tree climbing, axe throwing, nail-
biting competition and edge-of-your-
seat fun!
This year’s event will begin at
10:00 AM with the Logger’s Memorial
Dedication Ceremony. During this time
we will honor the fallen loggers of the
past and officially dedicate the newest
remembrance plaques to the Logger’s
Memorial. (Please note: the deadline
for purchasing plaques to be included
in this year’s dedication was April 15 th

Immediately following the
Dedication Ceremony will be the action
packed Logging Exhibition! This is
“the event” for hard working loggers
and talented high school forestry teams
from all over Oregon to come together
and showcase their skills. There are still
contestant spots available and logging
companies and individual loggers are
encouraged to participate - so put together
a team, test your skills and join the fun!
Events include tree climbing, choker
setting, splicing, double bucking, and
the hooktender race. Team registration
for the exhibition begins at 9:00 AM so
be sure to arrive early.
Make sure to stick around for
the auction! Donated items include
an authentic Robert Tidwell carving
form “Knot Just a Bear,” two cords of
firewood (cut and split), an Ax-Man
Axe, and a log truck of firewood. Food
and beverages will also be available for
purchase throughout the event.
Volunteers are needed and
donations are greatly appreciated.

Cover Oregon Extends Deadline
Oregonians have until April 30 to
apply for private health insurance
Oregonians now have an
additional month to apply for private
health insurance.
The new deadline to apply is
April 30. This gives people who have
not yet applied for insurance through
Cover Oregon more time. More time
to apply. More time to find out what
financial assistance they may qualify for.
More time to get covered.
As of April 3, there have been
more than 200,000 enrollments through
Cover Oregon. And right now, certified
Cover Oregon partner organizations,
like The Public Health of Columbia
County, are working hard to spread the
word and help individuals and families
get the health insurance they need.
Right now, the Public Health
can help Oregonians apply and enroll in
health insurance free of charge. Partners
and agents can enroll people online, and
oftentimes in one meeting, making the
process faster and easier than before.

Oregon’s extended application
period is targeted to people purchasing
private health insurance coverage either
through Cover Oregon or directly
from an insurance carrier. People who
purchase through Cover Oregon can
access tax credits and other financial
assistance. Oregonians who are eligible
for the Oregon Health Plan or Healthy
Kids can apply for coverage year round.

New small business tax credit option
Qualified Oregon small business
owners will have access to more
affordable health insurance for their
employees. Through an arrangement
with participating insurance companies,
qualified small businesses that purchase
a Cover Oregon certified plan directly
from an insurance company can benefit
from federal tax credits. The tax credits
will offset premium costs for employers
who provide health insurance to their
employees.
The arrangement allows small
businesses to access the tax credits for
2014 without having to wait for small-
group shopping features to be available
on Cover Oregon’s website. Find more on

Cemetery Committee
Seeks New Members
The Vernonia Cemetery Committee is looking for three new members. The
Committee meets on the 2nd Thursday of the month. Their duties include
suggesting policy and improvements for the cemetery, which is then reported to
the Vernonia City Council for action. Please consider joining this committee to
look out for the best interest of our loved ones that have their final resting place
on the hill. If interested, please request a committee application at City Hall.

Council
Annual Meeting

from the Nehalem watershed.
Time to mingle with citizens of the Nehalem. Participate in a
strategic planning process. Enjoy a potluck.
UNWC stakeholders will be voting on UNWC Bylaw – revisions.
UNWC seeks Executive Board members.
UNWC is a non-profit with 18 years of experience in serving the
citizens of greater Nehalem valley since 1996.
THE WATERSHED
The Upper Nehalem Watershed Council boundary includes
the Upper Nehalem, Middle Nehalem and most of the Lower
Nehalem class V watersheds. The Council boundary covers an
area of 541 square miles in four counties (Columbia, Clatsop,
Tillamook and Washington).
OUR MISSION
To foster better stewardship and understanding of the Upper
Nehalem Watershed and its resources, to address issues in
advance of resource degradation, and to ensure sustainable
watershed health, function and use.
