community Empty Bowls The annual Columbia Pacific Food Bank Empty Bowls Fundraiser will take place on Friday, April 11, 2014 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at the McBride Elementary School located at 2774 Columbia Boulevard in St. Helens. This is one of the major fundraisers for the food bank and the proceeds go to help fight hunger in Columbia County including support for Vernonia Cares Food Bank. Tickets are limited to 300 and can be purchased at the door for $10 and include a bowl of soup and a handmade ceramic bowl of your choice. Food for the event is being donated by the following businesses: Dockside Steak and Pasta, St. Helens Market Fresh IGA, Klondike Restaurant & Bar, St. Helens Elks Club, Fultano’s Pizza, Sunshine Pizza, and Bertucci’s. Bowls are handmade and provided by St. Helens and Rainier high school students. In addition, there will be a silent auction and pottery by the students will be available for sale with a portion of the proceeds going to the food bank. april3 2014 The Girls of Spring 19 The VHS Lady Loggers managed to get in a doubleheader against the Clatskanie Tigers between rainstorms on Monday, March 31. The Lady Loggers won the opener 9-3; the second game was called with score tied 11-11. Vernonia is undefeated in non-league play with 4 wins and one tie. The Lady Loggers will host doubleheaders at home against Nestucca on Friday, April 4 and against Gaston on Friday, April 11. The Vernonia boys baseball team will also play at home on those same dates.
