Bloomer 1938-2014 Marvin Chancy Bloomer left a rich treasure of memories with family and friends when he passed away on March 11, 2014 at the age of 75. As he enjoyed hunting this past elk season, and was at his youngest granddaughter’s side as she bagged a bull elk, he never knew it would be his last. Marvin’s life journey began on Dec. 10, 1938 when he was born to James and Amelia (VanDolah) Bloomer in Mason City, Wash. He grew up in the Trenholm area near St. Helens. His work ethic was developed at a young age as he helped his father log the old-fashioned way with horses. His mother was one of 22 children. Marvin often spent time at his grandparents’ house, and held fond memories of playing with his aunts, uncles and cousins, many of whom were close to his age. Marvin had one sister, Laura. The two played the accordion and were restoring vehicles, woodworking, sawmilling, assembling model ships, gardening, hunting and fishing. Survivors include his wife Marlene; son and daughter-in-law Marvin Edward and Cindy Bloomer of Mist; daughter and son-in-law Marie and Craig Bozart of Rainier; six grandchildren, Arminda, Dillon, Roger, Sierra, Noble and Melody Bloomer; nephew James “Tony” Bloomer and his daughter Ariel. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Laura Wahl. A celebration of life was held on Saturday, March 22, at 11:00 AM, at the Mist Grade School gym in Mist. Pastor Tim Teele officiated and lunch was provided by the Mist Helping Circle. Private interment was held at the Mist Cemetery. became skilled at playing songs together. He attended grade school in the Trenholm area. He was a student at Benson High School in Portland, and it was there that he learned an array of technical skills that enhanced his natural ability for creating and fixing just about anything he set his mind to do. On July 29, 1961, Marvin married Marlene Mattson. They were married for 52 years and had two children, Marvin Jr. and Marie. Marvin was drafted into the Army in November 1961. He earned a designation as a sharpshooter and was assigned to the Army’s motor pool. His duties included driving military officers and performing mechanics on the fleet. During his younger years, Marvin was employed at a furniture shop making cabinets, helped build the Glen Canyon Dam in northern Arizona, and sewed women’s bathing suits at the Darrell E. Rush Jantzen factory in Vancouver. December 3, 1933 – March 19, 2014 In the 1960s Marvin and Marlene moved from the Portland area to Birkenfeld, then relocated to Mist about 10 years later. While living in the Nehalem Valley, Marvin worked in the logging industry for close to 40 years, mostly as a yarder engineer. Marvin had a love for aviation. Building and flying radio controlled airplanes and helicopters was one of his favorite hobbies for many years. He designed and made jewelry using the lost wax casting process, and also used the technique to make parts he was unable to buy.
