In Memory of...
Michael Warren Hartzell

Michael Warren Hartzell, 74,
a resident of the Vernonia Community
died Tuesday late morning, December
24th, 2013 at his residence in Vernonia.
Private cremation Rites have been held
at Hoyt Crematory in Forest Grove.

MICHAEL
WARREN
HARTZELL was born on April 6th,
1939 in Lakeview Oregon, the son of
Warren and Faye (Pendery) Hartzell, he
was raised in Oregon and later moved to
California and received his education in
Sacramento and Oklahoma City where
he met Ruby Hartzell at the age of 17.

He was united in marriage to
Ruby Hartzell on January 2nd, 1957
in Purcell, Oklahoma. They celebrated
their 56th wedding anniversary this past
January. Following his marriage they
made their home in the communities of
Point Magu, California; Whidbey Island
Washington; Fair Oaks, California; and
Latrobe, California. In 2001 they moved
to the Vernonia community where they
have resided since. They Spent their
summers in Salome, Arizona for many
years and lived part time in Blanchard
Idaho.

As a young man Michael enlisted
into the Navy where he spent 6 years
working on jets and aircraft carriers.
After his time served in the military
he then worked at the Southern Pacific
railroad. He went on to spend most of his
career in the Post Office in Sacramento
where he retired after 30 years in 1998.

Michael enjoyed spending time
with his family his family always came
first. As a child he was a boyscout which
helped him discover the outdoors, he
loved fishing, flying, and hunting. He
was quite the builder as well. He made
many planes from the bottom to top,
flew them all over, then tore them apart.
He then built his large beautiful home in
Vernonia, all on his own.

The community was very
important to Michael. When he was
not working he was volunteering at
the Fire Department. He founded the
Department in LaTrobe, CA and became
the Fire chief for many years. His family
said he was loved by all who came in
contact with him and that his mother
adored him.

He is preceded in death by his
parents and wife, Ruby Mae Hartzell.

Survivors include his son and
daughter-in-law, Steven and Tammy
