entire team.” Medaris also worked hard
and earned the “Most Improved Runner”
award.
Football- This year’s Logger football
team, head coach Gordon Jarman,
and his staff faced a lot of adversity.
Trouble with players being ineligible,
moving away, not turning out or having
health issues not related to football led
to a very thin and inexperienced line.
This also forced the cancelation of the
JV season. On the up side, it allowed
several freshmen to earn varsity playing
time and varsity game experience.
The team ended the season with
a 1-8 record overall and a 0-5 league
record.
“Our players practiced hard and
competed hard,” said Jarman. “Although
wins and losses do not show it, we were
very close to winning four games on the
season.” Untimely turn overs, failure to
score when in the red zone and giving up
a few big plays resulted in the Loggers
ending up on the losing end in several
games.
Some standout players for
Jarman were Jared Whitton, who was
a team captain and played on the line
and always gave his all when playing.
Ronnie Maldonado was also a team
captain and two way starter who was
the best receiver and also played corner
back on defense. Maldonado caught
several touchdown passes including a
seventy yard bomb against Gaston in
the last game of the year that gave the
Loggers a lead. He was selected as a
Second Team All League receiver. Tim
Jennings was named honorable mention
all-league at quarterback. Jennings, the
team leader and an excellent quarterback
who has a great football mind and really
understands the game, was named team
MVP. “All of our seniors will be missed
and will be hard to replace, however
Tim’s shoes will be extra hard to fill at
that position,” said Jarman.
Outstanding players returning
next year include Reed Jones at
outside linebacker, a Second Team All
League selection and the team’s Most
Inspirational player, and Damian Young
at tight end and punter; Young was
named First Team All League at punter
this season. Zane Green was a two
way starter all year at running back and
linebacker and Justin Wolf was a starter
on the offensive line. “These four athletes
were selected as team captains for next
year and will be leading the charge for
the 2014 season,” said Jarman. Jarman
is also looking for freshmen Brett Elliott,
who was named Most Improved player,
Jake Butcher, Bailey Morrison, Justin
Fletcher and August Johnson to play a
leading role on the team next year.
