Shoestring Community Players
Presents Annie The Musical
Shoestring Community Players is
proud to present the summer production
of Annie. The classic musical opens at
Scappoose High School and runs through
July 20. The cast, crew and orchestra are
looking forward to a great show, which
will be fun for all ages.
Annie stars Annabelle Robitz as
Annie, Ronald Hansen as Daddy Warbucks,
and Kristen Caldwell as Grace. The
100-member cast and orchestra comprises
a talented pool of children, teens and adults
from Columbia County and the Portland-
Vancouver metropolitan area. The show’s
director is Serah Pope, a professional
director, actor, playwright and founder of
Storyteller’s Theatre in St. Helens, OR.
Tickets for Annie start at $12.00
and are immediately available for purchase
at Bertucci’s candy shop in St. Helens or

Discounts are available for seniors and

Annie the musical is based on the
Harold Gray comic strip Little Orphan
Annie, with music by Charles Strouse,
lyrics by Martin Charnin and the book
by Thomas Meehan Annie is presented
through special arrangement with Music
Theatre International.

Shoestring Community Players
(SSCP) has been producing shows in
Columbia County for 30 years. SSCP was
officially founded by a dedicated group of
“Reader’s Theater” performers in 1982,
and has consistently produced a variety
of shows, tapping into the rich talent of
Columbia County and its surrounding
areas. SSCP is recognized in the Cultural
Inventory of St. Helens, and was recognized
by the National Endowment of the Arts for
its participation in the “Big Read” with
a performance of “The Persian” by Sam
Spade. SSCP is a non-profit 501(c)(3)
organization, relying on volunteers and
donations for every aspect of its operation.

Scappoose Insurance Agent to
Attend “Championship” Conference
Michael Ismert, a Scappoose resident, has
qualified as a “Championship” Agent by Farmers

Cultural Coalition
Grant Applications Due
The Columbia County
Cultural Coalition (CCCC) is pleased
to announce that grant applications
are now available for projects that
address the priorities identified in
the Columbia County Cultural Plan
first adopted in 2006 and updated in
2009.
The CCCC and its Grants
Committee are comprised of
volunteers from Clatskanie, Rainier,
Scappoose, St. Helens, and Vernonia.
CCCC’s mission is to encourage
projects and activities in the arts,
local heritage and the humanities.
Priorities in the Cultural Plan are
protecting existing cultural assets,
helping people experience a variety
of cultural venues, and increasing
access to and participation in cultural
events.
The CCCC has awarded
just under $70,000 with 52 grants
awarded to Columbia County
cultural organizations since 2005
with funds allocated by the Oregon
Cultural Trust (OCT). Established
in 2001, the OCT is a public/private
partnership that makes annual
grants to county and tribal planning
groups for cultural activities. The

Applicants must provide matching
resources (in-kind or cash) and must

or governmental units within the
county. The Columbia County
Cultural Plan and grant applications

Applications must be postmarked by
July 19, 2013, for projects that will
be completed between September
2013 and August 2014.

Eagle Scout Project
Patrick Morgan of Vernonia
brought Troop 618 from Beaverton
out to Vernonia to help with his Eagle
Scout project. Morgan’s project was
to clean, re-grease and paint 27 fire
hydrants in the downtown core.
