We talked to the local businesses that

wanted to continue with their offer. All
businesses renewed their offers, and no
one has cancelled their participation.

Robert George DuPuis
Robert George DuPuis, 91, who lived most
of his life in the Birkenfeld, Oregon area, passed away
December 15, 2012 after residing for almost four years at
the Canterbury Chateau in Longview, WA.
Bob was born on Jan. 1, 1921 in Eugene, OR
to Wilbert and Leona (Knauf) DuPuis. They returned to
Colville, WA where his father was ranching. After his
parents divorce when he was nine, Bob, being the oldest
of four children, worked before and after school to help
support the family. He graduated from Colville High
School in 1939.
He worked construction jobs until he joined the
Coast Guard in 1942. Bob was stationed at Tillamook,
OR where he met Gladys Provost who became his wife
on March 22, 1944 in Vancouver, WA. He shipped out
and was discharged October 1945 after being stationed in
Alaska and the South Pacific.
In 1945 they moved to a farm near Birkenfeld and
raised cattle and in 1959 moved to a farm in Birkenfeld
and continued to raise cattle as well as sheep. He was a
4H livestock leader. In 2003 they received the Cooperator
of the Year award for their farm conservation plan. Bob
supplemented the farm income by working as a truck
driver, a construction worker on local bridges, a logger
and a chip pile machine operator at the Wauna Paper Mill.
He is survived by a sister, Madeline and her
husband Phil Shriver; a son, William “Bill” and his wife
Lorena DuPuis; a daughter Catherine and her husband
James Moran; grandsons, Rob and wife Jeanie Moran and
Michael and wife Becky Moran; granddaughter, Ashley

COMMUNICATIONS: Pwr/1
believes WOEC would benefit by
increasing communication with the
membership. This includes an enhanced
website with online access to individual
KWH-use graphs, a membership blog,
conservation videos, an online newsletter
and energy generation articles. These
are some of the facts, statistics, subjects
and issues that can be easily presented in
this digital age as compared to the cost,
time and effort of published and mailed
print media or requiring members to
telephone, mail or travel to WOEC’s
office. Online enhancement is efficient,
more focused to individual member
concerns and immediately interactive.
This includes information on power
outage events as to what happened,
and for those members with computer
power back up, during a power outage,
when the power will be restored, thereby
relieving traffic on dialed telephone
lines.
The Question: What is WOEC willing
to do to improve customer service and
public relations as described above?
8. Communications: WOEC recognizes
member communication as a high
priority. That is why we use the most cost
effective way to send out a newsletter
using the Ruralite magazine which is
mailed monthly directly to each of our
member accounts for less than a first
class stamp. We also post information
on our website and write articles for
local papers.
As mentioned in response #3,
the new online bill pay system WOEC
will be activating next year will help
improve the available information
regarding members’ bills and usage.
WOEC still has numerous members that
do not have access to reliable internet
connections, and therefore they still
rely on our printed communications
like our monthly issue of Ruralite that
includes our pages/newsletter of co-op
information.
Our
website
has
links
on the Touchstone page to our
“TogetherWeSave”
program
that
provides energy efficiency ideas and
how to videos.
WOEC has a Twitter feed that
reports planned outages, outages when
they happen, energy efficiency tips, and
other helpful hints. These messages also
show up directly on our westoregon.
org home page. We also add pages
to our website for upcoming events
(example~ in the summer we have an
Annual Meeting page), and the general
manager’s monthly article is always on
the home page.
WOEC will work with the
operations department to develop a
page on the website that could have
information posted about what caused
recent outages, and our best estimate as
to service restoration.
