Creatures Makes
Donation to Bailey’s Pantry
On December 13, 2012 Creatures Pet Store was delighted
to deliver 126 pounds of Diamond Naturals dog food and 40
pounds of Diamond Naturals cat food to Bailey’s Pantry, which is
part of the Vernonia Cares Food Bank. This first delivery was made
possible through the generous donations and purchases of paper
puppies and kittens at Creatures. This fundraiser will last through
December 31, 2012

Scouting for Food Helps Vernonia Cares
On December 1, 2012 Cub Scout Pack 860, BSA Troop 860 and BSA
Troop 201 went door to door and collected canned food from the people of Vernonia
totaling 940 pounds. The goods where all donated to the Vernonia Cares Food
Bank. The event was part of the Boy Scout Cascade Pacific Council’s Annual
Scouting for Food campaign.

by Oregon Sheriffs
Toy and Joy
Volunteers were happy to
help Santa by wrapping
gifts for the annual Toy
and Joy program that
delivers gifts to families
in Vernonia. The
program is sponsored by
the Vernonia Fire and
Rescue Association.
Vernonia’s Seth Cutright, the
12-year-old boy who rescued his grandmother
from their burning home in October was
recognized on December 5, 2012 by the
Oregon State Sheriff’s Association for his
heroics and courage.
Approximately 300 attendees at the
annual state sheriff’s conference in Bend
gave the boy a standing ovation as his story
was read and he was given the sheriff’s
prestigious Life Saving award.
Seth and his family were in
attendance, along with members of the

Columbia County Sheriff’s Office who were
there for the annual Sheriff’s conference and
awards banquet. “We are proud of Seth and
glad we could be here to help acknowledge
his courageous act in saving his grandmother
from their burning home this fall,” said
Sheriff Jeff Dickerson.
The boy still had a glove on his right
hand to aid in the healing of burns he received
while saving his grandmother’s life.
