Kahli Ann Anderson
Kahli Ann Anderson is a Verno-
nia High School alumni, class of 2009.
She attended Pacific University for a
short time before deciding that she want-
ed more from life and to see the world.
Kahli enlisted in the United States Navy
and left for Basic Training at Great Lakes
training camp near Chicago, IL on Febru-
ary 14, 2012. She graduated from basic
on May 13, 2012. She left that night for
Fort Sam Houston, Texas to A School
where she graduated as a Hospital Corps-
man on August 14, 2012. She then came
home for 2 weeks and celebrated her 21st
birthday with family and friends. She
left for Yokosuka Naval Base in Japan,
about 2 hours south of Tokyo, on Sep-
tember 6th. She is currently working at
the Yokosuka Naval Hospital in OB.
Leadership takes tremendous
time and effort. A leader must have
knowledge of issues, understanding
of people and the ability to influence
change.
We have watched Tony Hyde
begin as a community leader through a
very damaging flood, to someone who
has become well respected in Columbia
County and the entire State of Oregon.
Tony has served as President
of the Association of Oregon Counties,
served on many committee’s concerning
economic development, served on the
board of the National Association of
Counties and worked tirelessly on the
Vernonia School project to name just a
few of his activities.
The reality is that Tony’s time,
effort, sincerity and respect from others
has put him in the position to be a
leader. This has and will continue to
benefit all citizens of Columbia County.
Tony is preforming his job of County
Commissioner for Columbia County at
a very high level.
Voting for Tony Hyde for Columbia
County Commissioner position 3 is
simply the right thing to do.

To the Editor,
Four years ago, I wrote a letter
to the editor to every newspaper in
Columbia County in support of Jeff
Dickerson in his quest for the office of
Sheriff of Columbia County.
I moved on to greener pastures
from the Sheriff’s Office before Jeff
took office and took a lot of heat from
my former co-workers on both sides
of the fence at the Sheriff’s Office, but
still maintained connections with many
of them.
Since that time I’ve sat on the
sidelines as Jeff and some of his most
ardent supporters throw rocks at others
from their own glass houses. I’ve also
seen how he seems to have squandered
much of the goodwill he had coming
into office.
And yet I have not felt the
need to write another letter regarding
the Sheriff’s race, until an experience
I had earlier today. Retired Sheriff’s
Deputy Dave Fuller, who I worked with
for almost 10 years, recently placed a
campaign sign in my yard. Then today
I saw Sheriff Dickerson canvassing my
neighborhood. We briefly exchanged
pleasantries followed by Jeff saying, “I
see how you’re voting, figures”.
Sadly that is symptomatic of
why I will be voting for Dave this time
around.
We don’t need a Sheriff who
is perfect, but one that builds bridges,
instead of tearing them down &
other people in the process. A Sheriff
committed to working with other law
enforcement agency administrators
in the county as equals, not with the
condescending attitude the “The Chiefs
work for me” I’ve personally heard Jeff
express.
What we do need is a Sheriff
who is committed to working with
others; the police chiefs in this county,
the courts, other elected officials and
most of all, the public.
I’m not perfect. I know Dave is
not perfect either. But anyone who tells
you, or has his surrogates tell you, he is
without fault, is probably not giving you
the whole story.
Please join me in voting for
Dave Fuller as our next Sheriff. Please
help to restore the sense of humility and
teamwork the Office of the Sheriff for
Columbia County needs and the people
of this county deserve.

he was speaking to a fellow Democrat,
he made the unfortunate comment that,
“If I was a real Democrat, I would vote
for the Democrat in the race.”
This is a sad comment on so
many levels. First, this is a nonpartisan
election. I happen to know Tony Hyde
very well, and, yes, Tony and I do not
agree on many national issues. The nice
thing about local politics is that these
issues do not intrude. We are free to
vote for the most energetic, competent
and effective leader we can find without
the intrusion of the divisive national
political debates.
My husband and I have both
been active Columbia County volunteers
for more than 30 years. During that time
neither one of us has encountered a
more hard-working, knowledgeable or
effective County Commissioner. Tony
continues to work hard to bring jobs and
good governance to Columbia County.
We encourage you all to vote
to retain Tony Hyde is our County
Commissioner.
