Headquarters Demolished
 
Things look quite a bit different 
at  the  corner  of  Adams  Avenue  and 
Maple Street.
 
The  old  West  Oregon  Electric 
Cooperative headquarters building is no 
longer there.  The building was recently 
demolished as part of the FEMA buyouts 
august14

Store Front Contest Winner
 
The  Vernonia  Chamber  of 
Commerce  (VCC)  would  like  to 
congratulate  Made in Vernonia and 
owner Kathy Larsen as the winner of 
the 2012  Store Front Contest which 
was held during Jamboree .
 
The  Store  Front  Contest 
was  offered  to  all  business  in  the 
downtown  district,    Member  or 
non  member.    The  grand  prize 
was    $100.    Businesses  were 
judged  on  cleanliness,  being 
inviting  to  customers,  flowers  and 
ornamentation,  and window display.  
The  judges  took  their  jobs  very 
seriously;  thank  you  Teri  Willard, 
Anja Salazar and Randi Carlton.
 
When  presented  with  the 
winning  certificate,  Kathy  Larsen 
asked  that  the  winnings  go  to  the 
Vernonia Cares Food Bank.
 
2 nd     Place    was  awarded  to 
Black Bear.  Honorable Mention was 
awarded to Vernonia Florist.
 
VCC would like to extend a 
big thanks to chamber member Lisa 
Edgar  from Vernonia  Florist  for  her 
willingness  to  recruit  and  manage 
this event.  She is an example of how 
members can be a part of building a 
more sustainable Vernonia.
that  have  been  happening  throughout 
the  Vernonia  region  following  the 
2007 flood.  The City of Vernonia now 
owns  the  property  and  is  restricted  by 
FEMA in how the property can be used.  
Current plans call for the City to use the 
space as a municipal parking area.

sponsored by the Vernonia Area Chamber of Commerce.
Greenman Field
August 30th from 6-8 pm
VHS Cheerleaders will be hosting a cleanup
day to get ready for the 2012 Football
Season. A grant from True Value Hardware
has enabled us to get paint and supplies.
The cheerleaders have already cleaned up and prepped
the field and stadium. VHS is looking for community help
in finishing up the project.
Please gather in the stands at 6pm if you are able to help.
