Vernonia Schools Begin Big Move
Volunteers and school district staff all pitched
in on July 10 to start moving the Vernonia schools to
their new campus. Books, desks, tables, chairs, filing
cabinets and much, much more were all packed up and
transported from the old buildings to the new facility.
But Vernonians didn’t do it themselves. Once
again the community owes a great deal of gratitude
to the inmates from the Oregon Corrections Depart-
ment for lending much more than a hand. The inmates
showed up for the entire week and helped do some
heavy lifting and made the move much easier for ev-
eryone.
State Senator Betsy Johnson was on hand and
helped the Vernonia Lions Club serve lunch to the in-
mates.
The move is not complete and most items still
need to find their way to their proper classrooms.
