UNWC Steering Committee Meeting Ramsey Honored by Vernonia

You are cordially invited to at-
tend the meeting of the Upper Nehalem
Watershed Council, Thursday, June 28 th
at the Fishhawk Lake Clubhouse, 9997
Beach drive Birkenfeld OR, 97016.

There will be two special pre-
sentations, beginning around 7:45, fol-
lowing the regular business meeting.

“Establishing Conservation Ar-
eas in State Forest – North Coast Land-
scapes”

Bob Rees - North Coast Forest
Campaign Manager will be presenting
on behalf of the North Coast State Forest
Coalition on the conservation communi-
ties effort to help establish permanent
conservation areas on the state forest
landscape. Under Governor Kitzhaber’s
vision for state forests, designating vis-
ible and durable conservation areas on
public lands can be an efficient way to
protect sensitive species and provide a
myriad of other values that all Orego-
nians embrace. The coalition is working
with the Board of Forestry and the De-
partment of Forestry to establish these
areas but citizen involvement is neces-
sary to meet the social and economic
needs of our fragile coastal economies.
The coalition’s work falls directly in
line with the work of north coast wa-
tershed councils, in securing high value
habitat for the protection of quality fish
and wildlife habitat as well as a source
of clean drinking water for future gen-
erations to utilize. Governor Kitzhaber’s
address to the Board of Forestry can be

who are taking your money
from one pocket and putting
it in another really care
about you? NO they care
about your money! You
are nothing but a number to
them, a $ sign!

If small business
leaves Vernonia, the town
looks deserted, no one
wants to live here, the
utilities and property taxes
are divided between fewer
people and those who stay
struggle more! Do you
not see that? Sure Sentry
is more expensive, they
don’t get the discounts by
buying in huge bulk that
Winco and Walmart do,
they also have more cost
of overhead here in the
highest utility area in who
knows where. My electric
bill in April was $900! I
can’t even imagine how
much Randy and Sharon
pay! Sure gas at Minimart
is more expensive. How
much does it cost to drive
to another gas station?
More than .20 cents/gallon.
It costs you a gallon of gas
just to get there to save…
And, did that gas station
give money to your kids
all night grad party? NO,
but Matt did and look how
many people are working
at these stores and feeding
their families. Do we only
show compassion when we
lose someone or should we
be more considerate to our
community and want to
keep it together by doing a
little shopping here in town
daily instead of handing
our hard earned money
over to those who really
don’t know us, don’t care
about us and only see us as
a dollar bill.

Thank you to all
who support Vernonia
Florist and all other local
business. We care about
your families, we do our
best to contribute to all
fundraising events, and we
do our best to help when we
can. Please consider the
same and shop local before
it’s too late.
