In August 2010 Vernonians organized what was billed as the “The Biggest Class Reunion”
to help raise funds for construction of the new school campus.
In October 2010 a new trailhead on
the Banks-Vernonia Linear Trail was
opened in Banks.
On December 2, 2010 Oregon
Governor Ted Kulongoski helped
break ground at the new Vernonia
school site.
On January 14, 2011 all of Columbia County mourned the loss of Rainier Police Chief Ralph
Painter, who was killed in the line of duty on January 5th.
High school life is important
in any small rural town.
Homecoming, the prom,
and school sports are a rite
of passage for our children
and play a significant role
in the life of our community.
In Vernonia, we love our
Loggers!
In our January 11, 2011 issue we
featured the Keasey Century Farm
and caretaker Dennis Nelson.
In March of 2012
students from Portland
Community College
helped landscape the
new school campus.
The new Vernonia
school is scheduled
to open in the fall of
2012.
Local resident Mackenzie Carr was
named Miss Rodeo America 2012.
