In Memory of... continued from page 15
S.W.  Taylors  Ferry  Road  in  Portland, 
Oregon, with the Pastor Grant Williams, 
officiating. A Celebration of Life Service 
was  held  on  Sunday, April  29,  2012  at 
2:00  PM  at  the  Vernonia  Community 
Church,  967  State  Avenue,  with  the 
Pastor Ralph Young, officiating. 
 
Family  and  friends    attended 
a  reception  immediately  following  the 
church ceremony in the fellowship room 
(gymnasium) of the church.
 
ETTA ELIZABETH RUSSELL 
was born February 14, 1918 on a farm, 
near  St.  Charles,  South  Dakota,  the 
daughter  of  the  late  Joseph  and  Anna 
Marie  Wuest.  She  was  raised  and 
received her education in the St. Charles 
community, having been a graduate of the 
St. Charles High School Class of 1936. 
She  then  attended  Taylor  University  in 
Upland, Indiana for one year.
 
In 1939, she moved to Oregon, 
settling in the Klamath Falls community 
where she met her husband, Gerald. She 
was united in marriage to Gerald LeRoy 
“Jerry” Russell on February 25, 1942 in 
Klamath Falls, OR. 
 
When Jerry was drafted into the 
U.S. Army,  Etta  moved  to  Snoqualmie, 
Washington,  to  reside  with  her  parents, 
Reverend  and  Mrs.  H.L.  Russell.  They 
pastored  the  Church  of  the  Nazarene 
in  Snoqualmie,  WA  for  several  years. 
Etta  worked  at  Boeing  Aircraft  as  a 
time  keeper  at  Renton,  WA,  until  Jerry 
received his discharge.
 
In  1946,  she  moved  with 
her  husband  and  baby  girl,  Karen  to 
Portland, Oregon where they resided for 
 
Also  surviving  are  her  ten 
grandchildren and their spouses, Rhonda 
and Dale Restau; Bill Miller; Bobby and 
Jennifer  Miller;  Joshua  Russell;  Ben 
and Tiffany  Russell; Jeremiah Russell; 
Tammy and Jeff Manley;Cherith Russell; 
Zachary  Russell;  and  Dakota  Rose;  her 
ten  great-grandchildren,  Ryan,  Kyle, 
Dylan,  Brendon,  Bailey,  Samantha, 
Gavin, Landon, Maverick and Leon; and 
several nieces and nephews.
 
The  family  suggests  that 
remembrances  may  be  contributions  to 
the Vernonia Senior Center, 446 Bridge 
Street    Vernonia,  OR  97064,  in  her 
memory.

In  1948,  they  moved  to  the  Vernonia 
community,  where  she  had  made  her 
home since.
 
Etta  was  preceded  in  death  by 
her husband, Jerry, on February 23, 2003 
at  Forest  Grove,  OR,  after  celebrating 
over sixty years of marriage together.
 
She  had  worked  for  Tektronix, 
Inc. in Beaverton for ten years, until she 
retired  in  1971.  Etta  then  worked  as  a 
custodian at the Vernonia Post Office for 
twelve years, until she retired.
 
Etta  had  volunteered  at  the 
Vernonia  Senior  Center  for  twelve 
years,  serving  in  various  activities, 
including  hostess,  bookkeeper,  kitchen 
aid,  dispatcher  for  COLCO  and  she 
delivered  meals  on  wheels  and  hauled 
groceries for the Senior Center.  She also 
helped her husband operate a worm farm 
for twelve years.
 
She  was  also  active  in  the 
Church  of  the  Nazarene  for  over  sixty  Louise E. Larson
years.  In  later  years  she  belonged  to 
the  Vernonia  Community  Church.  Etta 
was also an active member of the Home 
Extension Club for over thirty-six years.
 
Etta was also preceded in death 
by her parents, Joseph and Anna Marie 
Wuest;  and  her  grandson,  Kris  Russell, 
on April 25, 2002.
 
Survivors  include  her  daughter, 
Karen  and  Ronald  Miller,  of  Hubbard, 
OR;  two  sons  and  daughters-in-law, 
Ronald  Russell,  of  La  Center,  WA; 
and  Fay  Russell,  of  Vernonia,  OR;  and 
her  one  brother,  Jim  Wuest,  of  Peoria, 
Illinois.

4:30 PM  at the Forest Grove Senior and 
Community Center, 2037 Douglas Street 
in Forest Grove, Oregon.
 
LOUISE 
ELIZABETH 
LARSON was born September 9, 1916 
in Astoria,  Oregon,  the  daughter  of  the 
late George Edward and Anna (Pauline) 
Beck  Kruckman.  She  graduated  from 
Astoria  High  School  in  1934  and  the 
University  of  Oregon,  where  she  was 
a  member  of  the  Chi  Omega  Sorority.  
Later,  while  teaching  full-time,  she 
earned  her  Master’s  Degree  from 
Portland State University. 
 
She  married  Gordon  G.  Larson 
on  February  8,  1941  in  Astoria.  After 
Gordon’s  discharge  from  the  U.S. 
Navy  they  lived  in  the  communities  of 
Newberg,  Vernonia,  Banks,  and  Forest 
Grove.  Louise was preceded in death by 
Gordon after fifty-two years of marriage.
 
Louise  taught  school  in  Banks 
for  25  years  until  she  retired  in  1983. 
Then,  she  continued  teaching  as  a 
volunteer for the ESL program at Centro 
Cultural,  and  the  S.M.A.R.T    Reading 
program.
 
Louise  was  also  member  of 
the  Clatsop  County  Historical  Society, 
and  the  Columbia  River  Maritime 
Museum.    Her  father  was  a  veteran 
Columbia  River  fisherman  and  worked 
as a seiner. She was imbued with a love 
for  Astoria  and  the  Columbia  River.
