the folks in Vernonia
to see where you’ve
visited? Next time
you head out of town
don’t forget to take
along the latest issue
of Vernonia’s Voice.
Then send us a photo
of you reading The
Voice near a famous
landmark or scenic
spot, along with a
brief description of
where you were.

Vernonia City
Councilor
Donna
Webb recently traveled to
Las Vegas and stopped by
the Cosmopolitan Hotel and
Casino. Although she didn’t
gamble in the casino, Donna
did take a few minutes to read
the Vernonia’s Voice. Donna
was in Vegas to meet her
daughter’s host parents from
Germany who were celebrating
their 25 th wedding anniversary.

On Friday May 18 th Vernonia Hands-
On Art Center, the local non-profit arts and
heritage organization, presents an evening of
art and community at the Vernonia Community
Learning Center and the Blue House Café
starting at 6:00 PM.

We are excited to present the fourth
annual Junior Salmon Auction. This event
is a fundraiser for the Vernonia School Arts
programs that features customized salmon by
Vernonia art students. The students are supplied
with a nine by fourteen inch blank pressboard
salmon that they use to create their own unique
vision.

At 7:00 PM they will be
auctioned off in the VCLC by
local auctioneering legend Bill
Yeo with a minimum starting bid
of $10.00. Also up for auction
are several chairs and tables that
the students decorated using
themes from popular artwork.
Profits go to support Vernonia
School Arts and Hands-On Art
programs.
  In addition
to the auction,
we will have an
art exhibit and
sale at the Blue House Café. This
will include art from Vernonia
artist Nathan Bower and Vernonia
students.

Nathan is a recent transplant to Vernonia
who specializes in oversized, brightly colored,
joyful paintings. He has recently exhibited
in the Columbia County
Courthouse, JCafe in Portland,
and with Activate sponsored by
RAWartists.org.
We welcome you to come at
6:00 PM, browse, enjoy hors
d’oeuvres at the Blue House,
chat up the artists, and preview
the salmon and furniture to be
