age 3, is also excited to welcome Andrew

and Dan and Sally Brown of Gladstone,
OR.

Genevieve M. “Genny” Fisher
Genevieve M. “Genny” Fisher,
81, of Vernonia, Oregon, died Tuesday
morning, April 10, 2012 at the Wynwood
of Forest Grove Retirement Community.
A Funeral Mass was held to
celebrate Genny on Saturday, April 21,
2012 at 11:00 A.M. Recitation of the
Holy Rosary proceeded the Mass at
10:30 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church,
960 Missouri Avenue in Vernonia, with
the Fr. Luan Tran, celebrant. Assisting
was Judy Budge, pastoral associate.
Burial Rites and Interment followed at
the Vernonia Memorial Cemetery, 2080
Bridge Street in Vernonia, OR.
Family and friends were invited
to attend a reception immediately
following the cemetery rites, held in the
Parish Hall.
Genevieve May “Genny” Fisher
was born September 11, 1930 in Hood
River, OR, the daughter of the late
Lee Schwab and Clara (VanDomelen)
Schwab. She was raised and received her
education in the Vernonia community.
She was united in marriage
to Tracy Ellsworth Hanson on July
13th, 1948 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
Following their marriage they resided in
the Vernonia community.
Genny was preceded in death
by her husband, Tracy, on December 10,
1969, after celebrating over twenty years
of marriage together.
On October 12, 1974 she was
united in marriage to Dale Eldred Fisher
at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in
Vernonia, OR. They celebrated their 37 th
Wedding Anniversary this past October.
Following their marriage they resided
in the Vernonia community for three
years, until 1977 when they moved to
Longview, WA. In 1993, they returned
to the Vernonia community, where they
resided for seven years, until 2000 when
they moved to The Dalles community.
In 2004, they returned to the Vernonia
community. In 2008, they moved to
the Forest Grove community, having
resided at the Homestead Retirement
Community, later at the Jennings
McCall Retirement Community and
more recently to the Wynwood of Forest
Grove Retirement Community, where
they have resided since.
Genny
had
worked
for
Tektronix, Inc. in Beaverton for ten
years, until 1974, when she retired. She
later worked as a waitress at the Coffee
Shop in Vernonia and the Mid Valley
Coffee Shop in Longview, Washington,
for several years.
Genny had two loves, her
family and caring for Vernonia. She
was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic
Church in Vernonia, Oregon, being
active with their quilt fairs and gift shop.

heartbeat to “keep Vernonia beautiful.”
She helped with Vernonia Jamboree
activities for many years. She also
volunteered for the American Cancer
Society in Vernonia and Cowlitz and
Wahkiakum Counties. In the 1970’s, she
was a great promoter of the Melodrama’s
performed in Vernonia as fundraisers for
the American Cancer Society. During
the flood of “96” she was an active part
of committees to provide relief supplies
for the community. She coordinated and
ran the “flood Dudes” clothing shop,
providing free clothing for those in need.
Among her special interests she
enjoyed sewing, crafts and caring for her
dog, “Holly” and her cats, “Sebastian”
and “Callie.”
While living in the Longview
community, Genny was instrumental in
organizing the Terry Taylor North Lake
Neighborhood Garage Sales, as well as
block watches. Of the 267 residents,
approximately 167 would hold a garage
sale during the summer.
She was preceded in death by
her parents, Lee and Clara Schwab and
by her brother, Melvin Schwab.
Survivors include her husband,
Dale E. Fisher, of the family home in
Forest Grove, OR; her four children
and their spouses, Gary Lee Hanson, of
Seaside, OR; Christine Y. and Patrick
A. Hall, of Forest Grove, OR; Tracy
Lawrence “Larry” and Billie Hanson, of
