At the March 19, 2012 City Council Meeting:

The following chart describes how the current 
customer base is distributed by water meter size:
 
Ninety-five percent of the city’s utility system 
customers use either of the two smallest meter sizes 
and  the  majority  of  these  accounts  are  residential 
customers.  There are also 97 nonresidential accounts 
in the smallest meter sizes class.  
 
The  chart  at  the  bottom  of  this  article 
describes in general the Base Rate, Water Allowance 
and Consumption Rate by water meter size.  
 
The new water rate will be incorporated in the 
monthly city utility bill due in early July 2012.    The 
water  utility  charge  is  only  one  part  of  the  monthly 
utility  bill.    In  addition  to  the  water  utility  charge, 
there  is  a  charge  for  sewer  loan,  sewer  utility,  and 
park fee.  For the majority of the utility consumers in 
Vernonia who previously paid the minimum monthly 
utility  bill  of  $102.00,  the  monthly  utility  bill  will 
increase to $103.00 or $1.00 more with the bill due in 
July 2012.
Council Approves IGA Between School and
City—Council  approved  an  Intergovernmental 
Agreement  between  the  Vernonia  School  District 
and the City of Vernonia regarding the demolition 
of the current school buildings  and the construction 
of  the  replacement  park.    According  to  City 
Administrator Bill Haack, this was a housekeeping 
measure and should have been in place previously.
Council Accepts Resignations—Mayor  Josette 
Mitchell  and  Council  accepted  the  resignations 
of  three  members  of  the  Vernonia  Community 
Learning  Center  Committee:  Jill  Hult,  Janelle 
Cedergreen and Carol Davis.
The City of Vernonia will have three offices open for election
in the General Election on November 6th, 2012:
Vernonia Mayor
Two Year Term
Vernonia Council Member
Four Year Term
Vernonia Council Member
Four Year Term

Original nomination petitions can be filed no sooner than May
30, 2012 and filed no later than August 23, 2012 by 4:00 PM
with the City Recorder.
