On the down side, the Loggers
have been up against some really bad
weather with sub-par practice facilities.
“The track is a muddy lake during wet
weather and loose dust in dry weather, no
lanes to practice hand-offs, so we have
to improvise,” says Brown. “Even with
that, our relay teams have historically
done very well--a tribute to the talent
we’ve had.” the Loggers boys’ team was
4th in the state last year, 2 steps behind
state champs Central Lynn (who set a
new state record).
On the plus side, the Loggers
are fortunate to have Shelby Grittman as
a volunteer coach. Grittman was one of
the top sprinters in the state at Vernonia
as a freshmen and then later at Clatskanie
High School, and he will really help an
already talented group of sprinters be
even better.
