your local PTA, help us out and brighten
the day. We have lots of things to do,
both exciting and new, come join in the
fun there’s so much to be done! Why are
you waiting? Please stop hesitating, no
need to wait, just pick up the phone, or
stop by the school. We have applications
for you! No need to worry, just hurry!!

PTA today.
The VCPTA is a group of teach-
ers, parents, students and community
members that seek overall greatness for
our children in the Vernonia School Dis-
trict. We are not a school specific PTA.
For the last 9 years VCPTA has held
many community events and fundrais-
ers. We have been able to provide things
for Vernonia’s children, such as a new
playground to the WGS, a rock wall to
the new school, financial assistance to
K-12 grades for things such as field trips,
teacher and student supplies, a senior
scholarship, printers, pencil sharpeners,
digital cameras and much more!
A future goal of our VCPTA is
to continue to help students. We hope
to offer a variety of ways to encourage
students to make the very best of their
school careers. We value community and
member input. And we hope you will

Several other Loggers have a chance to
place and add points to the Loggers total
as they look to bring the District Team
Championship back to Vernonia.
“If we qualify enough wrestlers
for the State Tournament I think we have
a real chance to compete for a State Title
this year,” says coach Wolf.
Leading up to the District
Tournament, the Loggers finished 10th
out of 16 teams at the very competitive
Pacific Rim Tournament in Seaside
on January 20-21. Highlights for the

Our first Carnival Committee Meeting
is scheduled for February, 22nd, 7pm in
the WGS library.
Any and all interested in helping out
with the planning and organizing of our
carnival are welcome to attend. You do
not need to be a PTA member to help out
with this event.
We are proud to still be here, and

On January 26 the Loggers
hosted Knappa and Nestucca on senior
night. The home crowd had a chance to
honor and say goodbye to a great class
of wrestlers, including Jake Barnes, Joe
Benes, Brett Benes, Dillon Dethlefs,

Basketball--The
Booster’s Youth
Basketball held their annual “Kick off
the Season” tournament on Saturday,
January 7th here in Vernonia. Both
boys and girls 5th/6th grade teams par-
ticipated as well as some Banks and
Forest Grove teams--there were 13
teams total. Vernonia’s 5th/6th grade
boys team took home 1st place on the
boys side and Banks took home 1st
place for the girls side. The tournament
was a great success and on behalf of the
Basketball Board, we’d like to thank all
of our many volunteer’s that helped to
put on this tournament! A special thank
you from the Boosters to Amanda Wolf
for all her extra work in organizing the
tournament.

Timbers Soccer Tickets—The Verno-
nia Soccer Club has tickets available
again this year for a Portland Timbers
game. The game is on August 25th and
the Timbers will be playing their Pacific
NW rivals, the Vancouver Whitecaps.
Vernonia Soccer has 26 tickets avail-
able for $28 each (sideline seating).
This is $14 off the regular price. They
can also get more tickets for $35 each
in the Timbers Army section. Please

On January 28, Sammy Morgan
participated in the Women’s State
Tournament where she took 3rd place.

Grade 1
Megan is responsible and respectful and her
teacher says she works hard in class and is always
willing to help other students. Megan says she
enjoys reading and music. Megan is in Girl Scouts
and says she enjoys helping take care of her family's
goats and dogs.
Tristan Adams ,
Grade 7
Tristan is a terrific young man. He is self motivated,
he works hard on his assignments and hands in
quality work. He gets all of his assignments done
and done on time. He is a role model for others to
follow and is an A student. He is also well liked by his
peers. “I predict with qualities like this, he will
definitely make something of himself,” says teacher
Malin Campbell. Tristan says he likes his Language
Arts class. Tristan plays basketball and baseball and
he plays in the Middle School band.

VHS Forestry Program
On February 1st the Loggers
faced off against Monroe in a dual meet.
The meet ended in a tie 33-33, with
Vernonia losing on a tie-breaker.
On February 4th Vernonia
traveled to the Scappoose Invitational
for a series of dual meets, losing to 3A
Sheridan 21-36 and 4A Scappoose 72-6
before defeating 4A Astoria 24-18.
On February 8th the Loggers
lost to district rival Central Linn and
defeated Nestucca in their final dual
matches before the all-important District
Tournament.
Grade 12
Alex is a foreign exchange student from Hamburg,
Germany and is living with Cathy and Reggie Ward.
Instructor Brad Baker says Alex is a hard worker in
Personal Finance and Advanced Conditioning where
he obtained the highest grade in the class. Alex
works hard, always has a good attitude, and a good
sense of humor. Alex says he enjoys studying US
History, English and Geography. He ran cross
country, plays basketball and plans to compete in
track and field.
