ARLENE E. HENNESSY, age
74, a resident of the Vernonia community,
died on Wednesday, November 23, 2011
at her home.
A
CELEBRATION
OF
ARLENE’S LIFE was held at 2:00
PM on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at
Vernonia Christian Church, 410 North
St., Vernonia, Oregon, with Pastor Sam
Hough officiating.
A reception was held in the
fellowship hall at the church following
the service.
ARLENE EDNA HENNESSY
was born on December 20, 1936 in St.
Helens, Oregon, the daughter of the late
John and Minnie (Stevens) Bomberry.
Arlene was raised in Yankton, Oregon
and received her education in St. Helens,
Oregon having been a graduate of St.
Helens High School with the Class of
1955. Following graduation, Arlene
attended Behnke Business College
in Portland, Oregon and received her
business certificate in Clerk Stenography.
She was united in marriage to
Robert L. Hennessy on May 20, 1960
2011
in Yankton, Oregon. Following their
marriage they resided in St. Helens,
Oregon until 2002 when they moved to
Vernonia, Oregon and she has resided
there since. Arlene and Robert were
married for 43 years prior to Robert’s
passing in 2004.
Arlene was a secretary at Boise
Cascade Paper Mill in St. Helens,
Oregon. She worked there until her
retirement.
Among her special interests,
Arlene enjoyed hunting, camping,
cooking, reading, the Oregon Ducks,
crafts, gardening and her beloved pets.
She was preceded in death by
her parents, John Bomberry, Minnie
Carlbery and step father Walter and her
husband Robert Hennessy.
Arlene is survived by her
two daughters and sons in law, Cindy
and Rob Heimann, of West Richland,
Washington and Shelley and Ray Cota,
of Vernonia, Oregon.
Also surviving are four
grandchildren, Bob, Brandon, Shandee
and Robby.
Remembrances

82, a former resident of the Vernonia
community, late of Forest Grove, died
Wednesday morning, November 23,
2011 at the Tuality Community Hospital
in Hillsboro, Oregon.
Funeral Services were held on
Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at 11:00
AM at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church,
960 Missouri Avenue in Vernonia, with
Fr. Luan Tran, celebrant. Burial Rites
and Interment followed at the Vernonia
Memorial Cemetery, 2080 Bridge Street
in Vernonia, Oregon.

VERDELL
“DALE”
ARMSTRONG was born on February
11, 1929 in Santa Anna, Texas, the
daughter of the late L. B. Yates and
Ruby (Hester) Yates. She was raised
and received her education in Coleman,
Texas.
She was united in marriage to
Irvin Armstrong on February 3, 1946
in Coleman, Texas. Following their
marriage they moved to Oregon, settling
in the Vernonia community, where he
worked in the logging industry and she
was a homemaker until her children
were grown. They later divorced.
Verdell worked as a cook and
caregiver in the Vernonia, Hillsboro and
Coleman communities. She retired in
1994.
Among her special interests she
enjoyed making afghans and scarves for
her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by
her parents and her three sisters.
Survivors include her children
and their spouses, Betty (Leonard)
Schmidlin, of Vernonia, Oregon; Peggy
(Skip) Mather, of Forest Grove, Oregon;
Linda (Joe) McCubbin, of North Plains,
Oregon; Michael (Carol) Armstrong, of
Aurora, Minnesota; James Armstrong,
of Willis, Texas and Tracy Armstrong,
of Buxton, Oregon; her brother, L.B.
Yates, of Coleman, Texas and her sister,
Dorothy Robbins, of Stratford, Texas.
Also surviving are twenty-
three grandchildren, twenty-eight great-
grandchildren and many nieces and
nephews.
The family suggests that
