November 2011
Hailey Reynolds ,
Grade 3
Hailey is a hard working and responsible student.
She is a Self-manger at WGS and is a member of the
Homework Club. According to teachers and staff she
she is an excellent representative of Washington
Grade School. Hailey also participates in Girl Scouts.
Hailey says she likes to go to her Reading Group at
school. At home Hailey says she likes to play with
her cat and her dog, and her brother Mekhi. She
also likes to play basketball.
Jacob Perry ,
Grade 8
Jacob was nominated as Student of the Month
because he is a responsible 8th grader who actively
participates in class. Jacob takes his school work
seriously and turns in quality work. In addition, his
teachers say he is polite and kind—great qualities for
a young man. Jacob is a Boy Scout and will become
an Eagle Scout shortly. Jacob says math is his favorite
subject and also likes creative writing. He enjoys
attending the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day
Saints, riding his bike and hanging out with friends.
Andrea Lezama ,
Grade 9
Andrea works hard in class and gives an excellent
effort. Her teachers say she is an intelligent girl who
has really worked hard on her academics this year
and it's paid off—Andrea earned Principal's Honors
with a 4.0 GPA in the 1st quarter. Andrea is playing
JV Basketball this year. Andrea is new to VHS, she
just moved to Vernonia from Rainier in September.
She enjoys listening music and texting with friends.

letic for a girl with her height and has a great attitude

Matoush expects to have a well-rounded team
that gets scoring from several different players each
game. He also intends to play an aggressive, pressure
defense that forces turnovers and presses the other
team.
“Our goal is to get to the state tournament and
I’m confident we will do that,” says Matoush.
The Lady Loggers opened the season with
losses to Warrenton, Oregon Episcopal, Portland Ad-
ventist and Clatskanie. They start league play at home
against Gaston on December 13, travel to Knappa on
December 16, and face Gervais at home on December
20. They will play in the Riverdale Tournament over
the holidays on December 27-29.
