VHS Fall Sports Update
Volleyball Qualifies for State Tournament
continued from page 12
being named as Coach of the Year for
the boys. “I believe this is a recogni-
tion of how far our team has come this
year,” said Brown. “Our runners made
tremendous progress during the year
and matured into a very good cross
country team. We finished the season
as the #14 team in the state out of 55
schools. We had a huge turnout, 27
runners, had a great season, one to re-
member, and we had a great time. I
couldn’t be prouder of them if they
were my own kids.”
On November 4th the senior
cross country runners were honored as
part of Senior Night before the Log-
ger’s final home football game. Se-
nior cross country runners are: Nicolo
Casale, Lucy Cheramy, Paul Jiranek,
Quin Johansen, Alex Lembke, Alyssa
Loggins, Jackson Miller, Samantha
Morgan, Janek Palovsky, Ana Scer-
batii, Daniel Shaw, Ty Talantov, Gadim
Valiyev and Iryna Verhogliad.
Vernonia Students of the Month
October 2011
Brandon Maloney ,
Grade 4
Brandon is known as a student who is always on
task, is responsible, and gets his work done.
Brandon says his favorite subject is definitely
science and he is very interested in chemistry.
Brandon plays soccer and does martial arts and
says he is expecting to get a drum set this year.
He also says he loves to play video games.
Jessika Goodman ,
Grade 7
Jessika was chosen this month because she is an
excellent student who works very hard and does her
very best. She is also known for helping other
students and for being very responsible—recently she
completed her homework assignments before
missing a few days of school for a scheduled activity.
She has a positive attitude and according to teachers,
“is a really good kid.” Jessika says her favorite subjects
are Language Arts and P.E. Jessika participates in 4-H,
and has lots of animals she cares for at home—horses,
rabbits, dogs, cats, fish, goats, and chickens. Jessika
also says she lies to sew, crochet and knit.
Daniel Shaw ,
Grade 12
Daniel is known as a student who is always willing to
volunteer to help with a project, whether at school
or in the community. He's just a stand up kid, a real
solid individual,” says one school employee. Daniel
says he enjoys Government class with Mr. Brown.
He ran Cross Country this year and plays the tuba in
the school band. When he's not in school, Daniel
says he likes fixing things, working on his truck and
hanging out with friends.
