Happy Trails: A Report From the Rodeo Road

My last rodeo is coming
up over the weekend of
November 12th. It’s the
Columbia River Circuit
Finals
in
Redmond,
Oregon. Also taking
place that weekend is my
good luck party, which is
being held at Desperado
Couture in Bend, Oregon
from 10:30 am to noon on
Saturday the 12th. I would
love to see you there!

Oregon Small Town Becomes the Smallest U.S. City with
Occupy Camp
There are no stoplights, the only
gas station closed years ago and there is
not a single multi-national corporation
within five miles. But Mosier, OR, with
a population of just 430, has become
what is likely the smallest U.S. town to
have an active Occupy camp.
Its backers from Mosier and
other small communities of the Columbia
Gorge are working to highlight their
vision for a family friendly camp that can
help counter national media coverage
of the Occupy protests in recent weeks
which has been dominated by images of
police and protestor clashes. W h i l e
the group has stressed its solidarity with
Occupy camps in urban cities across
the United States, the group is adopting
tactics and strategies they say reflect
Wasco County’s rural community values
where the camp is launching.
Occupy Mosier, for example,
is planned for a discrete 7-day period,
starting November 4 after which time the
camp may re-establish in another nearby
community. A number of local camp
participants presented their Occupy
plans to the Mosier City Council before
the launch of the camp and have gone
to significant lengths to secure a location
where they can legally gather. The group
has also invited local area Tea Party
Activists to the camp to share tea and
round-table discussion about areas where
the Tea Party and Occupy movements
can agree. The group expects 15 or more
tents to be set up with hundreds of people
visiting the camp during the week.
