Construction Completed on Church
Meetinghouse
Latter-Day Saints Prepare For Long-
Awaited Opening, Public Open House

The
Church
of
Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints recently completed
construction of a stake center
that will serve 3000 members
who reside in Forest Grove,
Cornelius, Banks, Tillamook
and surrounding communities.
Two congregations will use
the facility with two additional
congregations remaining at the
meetinghouse on Leon Drive.

“We have waited
years for a stake center in this
area,” says Brad Richardson,
president of the Forest
Grove Oregon Stake. “This
meetinghouse will relieve
crowding in our other Forest
Grove building and be a
blessing to hundreds of our
members who will no longer
have to travel to Hillsboro for
Sunday worship and midweek
activities.”

To celebrate the
opening, local Latter-day
Saints are preparing an open
house for the public, scheduled
for Saturday, September 17,
with tours of the stake center
from 3pm to 8pm. People of all
ages, faiths and backgrounds
are welcome.

“We’re excited to
show it to our friends and
neighbors and let them see how
it will be used,” says Becky
Cottam, president of Dairy
Creek Ward’s Relief Society
– the Church’s organization
for women. “It’s a beautiful
building.”

The 24,000 square-
foot meetinghouse is located
at the north end of Forest
Grove at 3661 Brooke Street.
It consists of a chapel that
seats approximately 300
people, a large “cultural
hall” for sports and cultural
arts activities, 20 classrooms
and several ward and stake
offices. The meetinghouse
differs from Latter-day Saint
temples, where marriages and
other sacred ordinances are
performed, uniting families for
eternity.

The Columbia County
Economic Team, in partnership
with Micro Enterprise Services
of Oregon (MESO), is pleased
to announce the availability
of Individual Development
Savings Accounts (IDAs)
which provide a 3 to 1 match
savings for qualified Columbia
County businesses. A business
owner’s net assets cannot
exceed $20,000 excluding their
home and vehicle to qualify for
this program. There are also
household income restrictions.
MESO can also provide
Columbia County businesses
very small business loans that
are not based on net assets or
income. The program is made
possible thanks to a grant
from the US Department of
Agriculture. Those interested
should join representatives
of the Columbia County
Economic Team and MESO
at the St. Helens City Hall on
September 12, 2011 at 7:00
PM.

Endorse Brad Witt for
Congress

Brad
Witt’s
congressional campaign for
Oregon’s CD 1 is pleased
and proud to announce the
recent endorsement of four
labor unions: United Food and
Commercial Workers Local
555, United Steelworkers,
IBEW Local 48 and Bricklayers
Local 1.

“I am honored to have
the support of these labor
unions and their membership.
Knowing that the House of
Labor is moving forward
rapidly with its endorsement
process in this very time-
compressed special election
primary, demonstrates their
commitment to identify a
candidate who truly represents
working Oregonians”, said
Witt.

Clif Davis of IBEW, in
his union’s endorsement letter
to the Witt campaign in part
stated: “Brad Witt will make
an excellent United States
Congressman. Every worker in
