Construction Completed on Church
Meetinghouse
Latter-Day Saints Prepare For Long-
Awaited Opening, Public Open House
The
Church
of
Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints recently completed
construction of a stake center
that will serve 3000 members
who reside in Forest Grove,
Cornelius, Banks, Tillamook
and surrounding communities.
Two congregations will use
the facility with two additional
congregations remaining at the
meetinghouse on Leon Drive.
“We have waited
years for a stake center in this
area,” says Brad Richardson,
president of the Forest
Grove Oregon Stake. “This
meetinghouse will relieve
crowding in our other Forest
Grove building and be a
blessing to hundreds of our
members who will no longer
have to travel to Hillsboro for
Sunday worship and midweek
activities.”
To celebrate the
opening, local Latter-day
Saints are preparing an open
house for the public, scheduled
for Saturday, September 17,
with tours of the stake center
from 3pm to 8pm. People of all
ages, faiths and backgrounds
are welcome.
“We’re excited to
show it to our friends and
neighbors and let them see how
it will be used,” says Becky
Cottam, president of Dairy
Creek Ward’s Relief Society
– the Church’s organization
for women. “It’s a beautiful
building.”
The 24,000 square-
foot meetinghouse is located
at the north end of Forest
Grove at 3661 Brooke Street.
It consists of a chapel that
seats approximately 300
people, a large “cultural
hall” for sports and cultural
arts activities, 20 classrooms
and several ward and stake
offices. The meetinghouse
differs from Latter-day Saint
temples, where marriages and
other sacred ordinances are
performed, uniting families for
eternity.
