2011 Bear Creek Run
The races have been run, the medals and ribbons
have been awarded, and money was raised for a good
cause.
The 2011 Bear Creek Run/Walk was held on
August 13, 2011, raising funds for the Vernonia Cares
Food Bank. Participants raced in a 5K Run and a 10K
Run as well as a 5K Walk. Vernonia High School Junior
to be, Nathan Fleck was the Men’s 10 K winner this year
with a time of 41:16; Patty Brockman of Milwaukie was
the Women’s 10K winner with a time of 53:27.
This was the year of the youth, with six of the
twelve places going to youth eighteen years of age and
younger.

BirkFest 2011
BirkFest 2011, a first year, two day camping and music festival, was held
on August 12 th and 13 th . Held on a beautiful, wooded property just north
of Birkenfeld on Highway 202, the event was well organized and featured
fourteen bands during the two days. Also included was the Erik Kesterson Memorial
Motorcycle Show and a Rat & Rod Show. The crowd was light, but the music was good,
the professional stage and sound system was excellent, the weather was cooperative, and
there were several vendors offering food and other items.
