Creature Comforts: Caring for Your Best Friends
By Michal Smith
Greetings fellow pet owners!
This is the first of monthly articles to
come on the topics concerning our furry
and feathered family members.
Who doesn’t get a “bang” out
of saving money? As the new owner of
Creatures pet store, one of the most com-
monly voiced concerns we’ve received
from the community is regarding the
price of pet food. The old adage “ you
get what you pay for” certainly applies.
In the case of pet food, you might even
end up paying a great deal more than the
bag price in the way of vet bills down
the road unless owners take the time to
understand their pets nutritional needs.
Some foods are made with a great deal
of fillers such as corn or wheat meal and
animal by-products containing little to
no nutritional value. Unfortunately these
ingredients can often, and over time,
cause respiratory problems, allergies,
skin conditions, lethargy, dull coat, loss
of fur, and a shortened life span.
Often, a pet owner will also have
to feed their pet a larger quantity of these
foods in order for the animal to feel full.
At Creatures, we pride ourselves in pro-
viding an option for owners who want to
avoid these potential food related health
issues. The food brands and choices are
nutritionally sound and owners don’t
have to feed as much of the food to the
pet at one feeding so the food supply
will last owners longer. Therefore, the
up front price of our pets food becomes
more affordable in the long run.
And speaking of big “bangs”, as
we get ready to celebrate the 4 th of July
we need to take a moment to ensure we
protect our pets from the stress of fire-
works. Here are some tips to think about
as it applies to your pet:

• Keep pets indoors as much as
possible and especially during the fire-
works displays
• Make sure pet ID tags are up
to date in case of accidental escape
• Redirect anxiety with chew
toys; crating or both
• Diffuse stress and help calm
your pet with pheromone scent diffusers
or calming soft chews available at Crea-
tures!
