Girls Softball—St. Helens Makes Do-
nation to Vernonia--The Vernonia Ex-
treme Softball teams have been having
a great year. Even with all the rain out
games they have managed to play some
games at home and away in St. Helens.
On April16 the girls played in a tourna-
ment in St. Helens. This is a pretty big
tournament and takes up most of the day
with the girls playing on fields at both
Campbell Park and Boise Field. The
girls finished first in the tournament, go-
ing 3-0 and brought home the champion-
ship Trophy! Great job ladies!
During opening ceremonies
their St. Helens softball spokesperson,
Betty Bundy, made the announcement
that they were doing a 50/50 raffle and
that half of the profit was going directly
to Vernonia softball. She also let every-
one know that $1.00 for all meals sold
in their concessions were also going
back to Vernonia. They wanted us to
know that they had not forgot about us
after the flood and know what struggles
we’re still having. The donation to Ver-
nonia was about $200.00! Thank you so
much St. Helens softball for your EX-
TREME thoughtfulness, you are so ap-
preciated!

Board also wished to thank all the soft-
ball coaches (Head Coaches Jolene Wal-
ters, Steve Wolf, Roger Whitton,
Traci Genshorck and their as-
sistants) for their hard work and
dedication this year. Also look
for a Softball Car Wash fundrais-
er this summer and help support
your teams!
Boys Win Banks Tourna-
ment—The Boys Midget Na-
tionals won the Banks Tourna-
ment in late May. The boys went
undefeated; winning all four
games they played and brought
home the trophy as tournament
champions! Congratulations guys!
T Ball—T Ball is wrapping up their
season and wanted to thank their spon-
sors this year: Pihl Logging, True Value
Hardware, and Wauna Federal Credit
Union. It was a great and fun year!
Fireworks Fundraiser—Don’t forget,
Boys Baseball will once again have a
fireworks stand to raise funds. Buy lo-
cal, buy early and buy often and support
Boys Baseball!
Let’s Dance! —Below: A Contra Dance was held on Friday, June 3rd, at the Grange Hall
in Vernonia. Contra Dance is a style of American folk dancing, similar to Square Dancing. Caller
Rich Gross led participants through a lesson before the Basinbillies took the stage and provided live
music for the event. With a room full of beginners and few veterans, there was lots of laughing and
missed steps, but also a lot of fun. Another dance is being planned for July 1st.
