10 schools may10 2011 VHS Spring Sports Update Baseball—Coach Aaron Miller’s Loggers, after a stretch where the team played well and went 8-1, lost four straight games--three straight to a tough Knappa squad and one against Country Christian. The team finally rebounded with a much needed 14-5 win against Country Christian on May 6, moving into third place and securing a place in the League playoffs. They play Country Christian again on May 10, then finish out the season with non-league games against Scio, Western Mennonite and Warrenton, Only the top two teams advance from the League playoffs into the state tournament. All season TJ White has hitting the ball extremely well (“He’s crushing the ball,” said Coach Miller) and was leading the team in batting average at .516, with 4 home runs and 11 RBI’s. Josh Butcher leads the team with 16 RBI’s; Jackson Miller leads the team in hits with 18 and has a .409 batting average. Coach Miller also mentioned freshman Jared Whitton for making a big contribution off the bench as a pinch hitter and player—Whitton is hitting .463 with 4 RBI’s in 13 plate appearances. Miller also mentioned freshman Ronnie Maldonado’s clutch hitting—Maldonado is 4 for 8 with 6 RBI’s. Clark fills in, when he’s not pitching, where ever needed—at shortstop, catcher and third base. “We can’t find a reason to take him off the field,” said Miller of Clark.
